Regis and Kahran are a Husband/wife dynamic duo in Atlanta, GA who specialize in lifestyle and children's photography at CreativeSoul Photography. And they are AMAZING AT IT.

They bring their Afrocentric, artistic visions to the forefront in ways many photographers could only dream of.

Their AfroArt series is both visually inspiring and uplifting.

Regis and Kahran of CreativeSoul Photography

They captured the true essence and beauty of natural-haired Black girls and boys. What was their motivation?

They wanted for more young Black girls to be exposed to more positive and beautiful images of themselves and their natural hair in media and online.

When you see the work of Regis and Kahran, you'll surely agree that they have created and captured a spectacular display of Black Girl Magic that would make any person of African descent smile.

[ See Reviews for Amaki Beauty Oil w/ Blend of Jojoba, Sweet Almond, Rosehip, Primrose, Argan, Jasmine RIGHT HERE...]

The stunning images feature the young girls as the SLAY in elaborate costuming and creatively scintillating natural hairstyles.

A Mission To Accomplish

“We feel that it is so important for kids of color to be able to see positive images that look like them in the media,” said Kahran. “Unfortunately the lack of diversity often plays into the stereotypes that they are not ‘good enough’ and often forces kids to have low self-esteem.”

Seeing that such feelings are common among children who are not represented, the couple fights against these negative feelings by showcasing Black kids whose elegance and regality prove all too well that they love how they look.

One of the things that is so impressive about these hairstyle images is the wide range of styles, they truly capture the versatility and flair of afro-hair.

Going Out Of Their Way For Black Beauty

The Series of AfroArt came together from CreativeSoul Photo’s travels. The couple worked on these series in various U.S. states (California, Georgia, New York, Texas, Georgia).

Every state that they visited, they created a different theme and came up with clothing pieces and accessories that went with that theme.

And truly, the way they arranged these different looks ON THE SPOT, just shows that Hollywood still doesn't have all the talent that exists out in the skreetz, ha.

On set, they literally just styled everything on the fly and worked with their hairstylist to create unique looks for each kid model.

Like.... Who knows how to do something THIS unique and GORGEOUS, ON...THE...FLY? We are wonderfully made!

So take a look at how their vision of brilliant Black beauty on children with natural hair turned out.

And you might want to contact them at their website if you ever need real PROFESSIONAL photographers who understand how to milk all the magic out of that melanin and put it on display for the world to see!

How STRETCHING Your Natural Hair Stops Breakage

If there's ONE THING in common with sistas who have loooooong type 4 hair, it's that they wear their hair in stretch styles. You betta believe it....

Apart from other critical regimen techniques like constantly moisturizing their hair, using the right products, keeping protein balance, and avoiding damaging chemicals, most women with long kinky hair that OWNS every room they walk into, wear their hair in stretched styles... Often.

It's so important.... Why?

Knots Are The Enemy Of Long Kinky Hair

If you've just done TBC (the big chop) or you have short hair, there's FAR less chance for your lusciousness to form tangles and knots.

See, for short hair it's difficult for your strands to completely loop around themselves.

It's like someone with super short legs and small feet, they don't to worry as much about tripping over their own feet like the tall, long-legged geek with big feet. (raising my hand, I'm that tall geek, lol)

OK, regardless of that possibly failed analogy... Look...

Fact is, as your hair grows, the ends become more susceptible to tangles because that's the nature of kinky hair. The tight coils, curls and kinks like to curl back into themselves, that's the cause of our oh-so-famous "shrinkage".

[See this post with 21 photos showing HOW REAL THE SHRINKAGE IS.]

Don't trip though, shrinkage is a great or bad as you decide to view it. I personally think the shrinkage is MAGICAL. But that's me...

And hey, shrinkage is a great way to observe if your hair strands are healthy or not, but can pose a big problem when your goal is to grow your kinky hair really long.

Please click the Facebook SHARE BUTTON to share This Article with friends, it helps us keep writing FREE info!

As your kinky hair strands start  "gettin' into the mix" and curling back into the others, they can easily form the dreaded (no pun intended) single strand knots or multi-strand knots and set your length retention way back.

Apart from the severe cuticle damage they cause, they can either break off at the knot or tangle up with other strands and form giant knots. Girrrrrrrl...

This can quickly lead to a lot of breakage (a lot of crying) and make it seem like your hair is not growing when it really is.

Never Comb or Brush Unstretched Hair!

Let's be real.... There are many ways to form tangles with long kinky hair, but for the most part, they're almost guaranteed to happen every time you try to comb or brush unstretched hair, especially when it's not wet or drenched in highly-moisturizing products, it's obvious that trying to comb through full kinky hair is going to cause some problems.

Simple Solution To Knots & Tangles

A very effective way to avoid all of this is to wear your hair in stretched styles. See, kinky hair loses moisture quickly and has stronger carotene bonds than straight hair.

So when it dries it tends to shrink up and become really stiff. Stretching your hair is a safe and easy way to avoid tangles and knots so you can retain length.

With stretched hair your strands won't loop back into itself and form knots, also it's a lot easier to comb and detangle without causing more tangles.

5 Ways to strech type 4 natural hair (video)

Stretched Natural Hairstyle Ideas

There are a lot of stretching techniques and styles available, believe it or not most of them are not anything new and have been used all over the world for centuries.

Bantu knots are really popular in the fashion, movie and the music industry because they are SLAAAAAYAGE personified honey!

They're a great way to differentiate yourself and add an edge to your style. A bantu knot out creates a more curly wavy pattern that's fun and springy.

Even still, there are many other stretching techniques like threading buns and wraps, they each have unique benefits and limitations so it's best to try them to see which one works best for you.

Trouble Stretching Very Dense Hair?

For Lovelies with highly dense hair, you probably have noticed that none of these methods are as effective at stretching your hair. Well...

The proper use of heat can help greatly in safely stretching your hair, but everyone is different and unique. The way someone with straight hair uses heat is completely different from how someone with kinky hair would use it.

For kinky type 4 hair the heat should be kept to a minimum and should be used less frequently, for example, no more than once a month. I hope this article was able to help you understand why stretching her hair is so important for length retention LOVES!

She only lets her hair down on the weekend. Here's what you will learn from this video...

Naakie shows you HOW TO...

Curly to Straight Hair (SILKY Straight Natural Hair - No Perm)

OK... OK... yes, we admit that we talked about heat as a hair-killer before. You know what? Nothing has changed even though this tutorial uses heat doesn't mean that it's best for your hair.

Here's the deal though... Folks gonna do what they wanna do!

Might as well teach them how to do it right! RIGHT?

So in this informative video, a beautiful natural, long-haired "Lovely" named Maame Hayfron is coming at you with the right information at the right time for the naturals who want to AVOID CHEMICAL RELAXERS and still rock a change-up straight style every once in a while.

According to her video, this is something that she rocks 1 or 2 times a year. Sounds reasonable to me!

So if you have some strong-held objection to other people straightening their own hair, get out NOW! And by the way... Try to relax a lil', LOL... drink some chamomile tea to calm your nerves or something, sheesh...

Without a doubt, we are all about loving what God gave YOU over here at BlackHairOMG. Still though, liking to change up once in a while doesn't mean you are forsaking your kinks and curls.

It means nothing more than girls will be girls.... We like change sometimes.

Just like boys will be boys, they like beer and uhh... more beer. Lol. So look...

Here are the 3 main points you will learn from this tutorial...

  • Test your straightening product FIRST from the bottom, under your overlaying locs. This way you can test for the best results.
  • The better you THOROUGHLY blow dry your hair before flat ironing, the less puffiness you'll end up with at the end.
  • Flat-Ironing before you have fully-dryed (while wide-tooth combing) will lead to split ends or frizzy ends.

If you watched the video, you see that she started off using a Shea Butter and Coconut oil mixture while flat-ironing and she quickly bailed out of that and went to using Mizani Miracle 25 Hair Milk instead for great results. It was not turning out well at first and we've already written an article about 5 reasons to leave Shea Butter and Coconut oil alone.

Well, you saw it first hand in this tutorial. But in the end, it turned out GORGEOUS. Good thing she started out flat-ironing the underside of her hair so that she could figure out what works as she went without having bad patches of hair visible to everyone. Very smart!

3 PERFECTLY Professional Natural Hairstyles for Work

Listen to me and listen good sis...

Don't you let anyone tell you that your natural hair is "unprofessional" for the workplace.  Your natural hair is... After all, your NATURAL HAIR.

Again... IT IS OUR NATURAL, God-created, God-given beautiful crown of beauty.

Think about this... Nobody else is forced to chemically-alter their hair to be able to punch a clock. Like... What are we even talking about?!?

Now let's keep things in perspective though, just like for ANY OTHER race and any other type of hair, there will always be styles that are not meant for work.

No matter your race or hair-type, some styles are too sexy, too exotic, too distracting, too unkempt, or too whatever for a strictly business environment.

Still, this little-known (for now) YouTuber is giving us some great and doable natural hairstyle for the corporate scene, check her out...

BlackHairOMG SPOTLIGHT ON: LoveIsInTheHairNoLye

These three cute AND professional styles are from a YouTuber that BlackHairOMG wants you to know. Ya know why???

We will happily lend our platform out for them so that they get more attention too.

Why LoveIsInTheHairNoLye's Vid Is BlackHairOMG SPOTLIGHT Worthy...

One of the main reasons this sista caught our eye is because she gives you natural hairstyle that a real person with a decent job can actually wear. LOL!

Let's be honest...

Many of these natural hairstyle videos that we see are TOO CUTE.

Still though, at the end of the video you are thinking "I LOVE IT, but does sis have a real job like me? I can't wear this to the office on Monday! Cute though girl.... Do you."

And you're still wearing the same tired hairstyles because the vid really didn't help you in REAL LIFE. As you had hoped...

Well, this young sista, who definitely deserve more than 3,000 subscribers. So go on ahead and subscribe to this young beauty! HERE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzRRShqfz5loV_-MYq6SFlQ

OK, real talk....

This is an amazing style for the summer and heat, and it is just super-cute OMG!

Listen, this sister made this amazing style look too dang easy! Upbraiding is NO JOKE!

Still though, if you practice and watch her video a few times, you'll get it.

Don't give up yourself. It takes time and patience, just like she said in the video.

Many times the main reason women don't master this technique is because they talk themselves out of it before they even began.

If you do this, commit to it. Do it until you have folks lookin at you like a hair GAAAWD like they look at her.

One-Style-At-A-Time Lovelies. Practice makes perfect.

Once again, let me tell you what products she used to achieve this gorgeous French Braided Curly Updo Look...

So now, I wanna hear from you in the comment section below. Could you pull this look off? Would you cut your hair to try this look? Or is this a "Hollywood" look that isn't practical for the normal person out here in the skreets?

Yes, I said "skreets". Don't Judge me...

Anyway y'all... Keep an eye out for her new show coming out soon called "Teyana & Iman", it's on VH1, so we're just gonna have to pray that the show aint super-ratchet. Lord knows I can't mess with none of the "Love & Hip Hop" shows no more. Girl, I feel like I'm disrespecting my ancestors watching that foolery, lol.

Hopefully Teyana's new show will help show a beautiful example of REAL Black love, family and positivity.

Like Drake says, "WE GON' SEE!"

So check out her SUPER CUTE photos that we captured from various interviews, the photo gallery below has them all and even a cute pic from when her hair was super long and full and she was reppin'for Mane Choice Hair Growth Pills.

How To Pineapple Natural Hair & SAVE Your Curls! [Tutorial]

LOOK TO THE LEFT OF THIS PAGE and SHARE THIS article on Facebook or Twitter for your friends, it will help us keep providing free info too!

The genius of the Natural Hair community is ALWAYS on display. The different ways that we invent homemade natural hair & beauty products and creative ways to protect our lusciousness in order to keep the curls POPPIN' never stop! And one great example of this is the nighttime hairstyle started by beautiful naturals called "pineappling".

When you stop over-shampooing your hair, it's a MUST that we find ways to make that BELOVED wash day definition last much longer. And guess what boo!! Pineappling is a wonderful technique for preserving those precious curls while you're rolling around in bed (snoring all loud, lol), giving you your best 2nd, 3rd and even 4th day hair.

What is a Pineapple Protective Style

Gotta love that protective pineapple, haa. The pineapple is a loose, high ponytail on top of your head, that prevents the frizz, knots and flattened curls that come with lying on a pillow. This way, only the sides and back of your hair will be subject to your tossing and turning.

What You'll Need To Pineapple Your Hair

The scrunchie or ponytail holder should be loose/tight enough that you loop it around your hair just once if possible. This stops a dent or crease from forming while you sleep. Many naturals prefer to use a satin scrunchie to stop accidental hair breakage and that depressing feeling of tearing hair out with normal hair ties. Ugh...

Many natural ladies also wrap their pineapple in a satin scarf or bonnet to protect their hair from the knots and dryness that comes with rubbing on a pillow, but if you don’t like to sleep with that on your head you can just sleep on a satin pillowcase.

What If You Have Type 4 Coils

If you have highly-textured type 4 hair, you may find that scrunchies or elastic still leaves an indentation in your luscious natural hair, if that's happens then you can pineapple just using a satin scarf and bonnet. This is especially helpful for shorter hair.

How to Pineapple

Now remember, this is pineapple is going to be a very loose ponytail, so we suggest that you start pineappling it right before you lay down for the night. It may slip a little but your hair should still be protected and don't forget your satin pillowcase boo!

  1. BEND all the way forward.
  2. GENTLY gather your hair on top of your head.
  3. SLIDE a scrunchie, elastic or special No-Crease Snap-Off Hair Tie around the base of the ponytail only once (or as loosely as possible) The looser the better to avoid creasing.
  4. *OPTIONAL STEP: You can clip the ends of your pineapple to your head or try NOT TO pull the ends all the way through to create a loose bun.
  5. PUT ON your bonnet or scarf last.

How to Take Down Your Protective Pineapple

The pineapple takedown is as important as putting it up. You can’t simply take your hair out of a pineapple and expect to walk out of the crib, you'll need to perk things up with some light styling.

This is how our Type 4a Editor Amanda takes down her pineapple.

Now don't get me wrong, a pineapple is definitely not the only way to sleep with curly natural hair. If you've tried it and it didn't work for you, that's OK. We'll be highlighting other methods to protect the luscious, so stay tuned Lovelies!
