☺ ? The Perfect Perm Rod Set for Thick TYPE 4 Hair

Please click the Facebook SHARE BUTTON on the upper-left to share BlackHairOMG with friends, it helps us keep writing free info!

If you have very thick type 4 hair, you probably know how difficult it can be to get those SUPER-DEFINED curls that you see so often featured on our Instagram.

But don't even trip honey, because your girl NaturallyTemi grabbed her camera, her Hydratherma Foaming Mousse, Jsheaoil and a ton of assorted sized perm rods just so she could teach you how to get the most POPPINEST CURLS (LOL) in the building! Fried chicken grease don't POP like this boo!

What's really dope is that she give a 360 view of the curls after she's done droppin' some knowledge on you. She aint playin' round....

[Follow BlackHairOMG on Instagram we got the hair pics & videos FOR DAYS!]

Here are her products of choice in this BOMB VIDEO TUTORIAL...

She wrote about the style too. She says she usually gets about 5-6 days from this super-defined style.

As far as maintenance goes, she keeps her hairstyle together once it is out of the curl rods by putting it in 3 ponytails and putting a hair bonnet on. She fluffs and shakes that bad girl in the morning and BAM! Ready to go!

Temi says that the Hydratherma Foaming Mousse helps retain moisture in her hair to an extent, but the leave-in she puts in before the mousse on is what mainly keeps her hair super-moisturized. She also mentions that she definitely prefers Hydratherma Foaming Mousse over the popular Creme of Nature Foaming Mousse.

The "Awww HECKY NAW" Moment of the Video

There was one big drawback to this hairstyle for folks that might be a little on the "lazy natural" side, or simply "AINT GOT TIME FOR ALLDAT!"... What's the big downer you ask?

Well... She mentions that she left the rollers in for two days! TWO DANG DAYS! Girrrrrrrl..... But I admit, it was super-cute and she says didn't go out much in those days and if she did need to go out she would wear a cute hair scarf.

So pretty much, try doing this style when you know you don't have to be anywhere for a couple days, lol. Netflix and chill on them fools, then step out like BOW! Curl on super-defined Fleek mode! Check out the video below!

BTW... Some of the ladies were askin' about that FIRE lipstick she was wearing, she says it is from the Colouredrainelipstick line, it's call "2am".

Transitioning "Scab Hair" & Follicle Shape Change Theory...

If you have not read any hair science books from certified trichologist (hair and scalp specialist) and health scientist, Audrey Davis-Sivasothy, you are missing out on a WEALTH of information.

In her book The Science of Transitioning: A Complete Guide to Hair Care for Transitioners and New Naturals the health scientist shares some interesting insights about the "scab hair" phenomenon and how the Follicle Shape Change Theory plays a major role. Below we share some of what we learned from her book and you'll also get links to her best-seller works at the end of this article. Check out what we learned from her about...

Perming and It's AFTER-EFFECTS when Transitioning

According to the scalp specialist, one major way that perms and other relaxers may have an effect on your scalp can be heard in the natural hair community's debates about the myth or reality of "The Science of Transitioning:: A Complete Guide to Hair Care for Transitioners and New Naturals by [Davis-Sivasothy, Audrey]scab hair". Since it's impossible to form an actually scab on hair follicles we'll refer to it as "transitional hair".

Transitional hair is a phenomenon that many new naturals experience just after their Big Chop, and it is defined as a combination of dry, wiry and semi-straight natural hair that does not have a defined curl or coil pattern, even with the best curl defining products.

This transitional hair (aka "scab hair") is usually isolated to the first few inches of new growth that emerges after you've stopped relaxing with chemicals. Nobody knows for sure what the cause is for these changes to your hair - but there are some really good theories and we'll talk about it right now.

Follicle Shape Change Theory

According to the "Follicle Shape- Change Theory", extra-dry, unpredictable transitional hair is caused by actual physical changes to the hair follicles' structure as a result of the long-term use of chemical relaxers.

Transitional hair is a temporary hair situation that is usually resolved as the follicle heals and the hair grows and settles into its permanent natural arrangement.

Some naturals are convinced that "scab hair" is a hair care industry myth or that it's something that was dreamed up by new naturals and transitioners to explain away their unwanted hair textures.

But for those who feel they have experienced "scab hair" or transitional hair themselves, it is all too real. But, since there's no specific scientific research to prove or disprove that transitional hair exists, theories are all we have to work with at the moment. But the proof is in the puddin' as they say.

In the past, she used gro aut oil with great success and got 2 inches of growth in 8 weeks! She made up her own version of the oil with additional ingredients that she feels improved the formula. If you are looking for fast hair growth, whether your hair's natural or processed this is the video for you. (Learn to transition to Natural in 7 steps here...)

Super Hair Growth Oil DIY Recipe & Instructional Video

Whenever the words hair growth and oil are in the same sentence there are a few select oils that most experts would say MUST be part of the mix.

For example, always see that your formula has oils that encourage increased circulation to the scalp as well as follicular strength so that your hair keeps from breaking. Examples include coconut oil, peppermint oil or tea tree oil.  (Join 17,500+ ladies and get BlackHairOMG's Email Newsletter)

For this hair growth recipe you will need the following:

INSTRUCTIONS: Carefully add all of your ingredients to a glass jar and mix well. When you want to use your oil just add what you need to an applicator bottle. Curly Proverbz makes it very clear that you should not use your mix beyond four weeks.

Because this recipe calls for a few ingredients that can cause allergies you should be sure to test everything especially if you are not familiar with some of the ingredients. (Get Hair Growth Tips from BlackHairOMG's Email Tipline)

Black Hair OMG Extra Tips.

So we love this vid, of course, that's why we are highlighting it for you. But still, let us also give you our quick take on what we think may improve this technique....

BlackHairOMG's take on this video about safely straightening natural hair is that we would suggest that it's a good idea to consider using use cool air for the blow dryer. That way, you would not be using heat on top of more heat when you get to the flat iron (click here for FHI flat iron reviews).

And here is another cool option...

You can try banding your hair first in order to stretch it out, this helps to protect your hair because you are not putting unnecessary heat to your natural tresses. Which is always a good thing.

This Salon SNEAKED Perm Relaxer Into This Natural Black Woman's Shampoo!

Honey, when I say OUT...OF...LINE. I mean the "me about to snatch off my gold hoop earrings and puttin' vaseline on my face" kind of OUT OF LINE!!!! (Sike, I aint fightin'nobody...) But anyway...

Here's what happened.

When a natural-haired woman from Marietta, Georgia made her appointment at Lucy’s Dominican Hair Salon, she assumed that the "blow out" hairstyle that she’d asked for would consist of a simple shampooing, conditioning, and of course, blow drying. When she first left the salon she was happy, but 3 days later, she noticed something weird when she washed her hair so that she could put into twists.

But for some strange reason, her luscious hair refused to curl as it ALWAYS DID and she noticed that large sections of her hair appeared to be unusually straight. When she called the hair salon to ask what IN THE WORLD they had done to her hair, they told her that they'd put chemical perm relaxer in her shampoo without her knowing about it!

As anyone with naturally curly, kinky hair black woman will tell to you, using any amount of chemical relaxer isn’t something that you do casually as if trying a new hair spritz or something. The active ingredients in most relaxers are alkaline chemicals like lye or ammonium sulfate that have a pH somewhere between 10 and 14. The hair damaging properties of these substances break down hair’s protein structure. Cases in which relaxer is left in for too long can result in severely damaged hair and burning of the scalp.

According to the woman, a representative from the salon informed her that it was standard procedure to mix a small amount of relaxer into the shampoo used for people with natural hair and that it wasn’t cause for concern. Lisbeth Dominican Hair Salon, which the woman also called out in the original post, made a point of posting to Facebook that they did not make a practice of mixing relaxer in with shampoo.

After the woman posted photos of her now processed hair as a warning to women with natural hair who might patronize the salon, the natural hair community quickly came to the consensus that the woman would be well justified if she decided to sue the salon.

“This is one of the NO-GO’s for my naturalistas,” Yelp user Tosha W. wrote in a critical review of the salon prompted by the screenshot. “Mixing a perm in with the shampoo without consent is just as tacky as a hair salon can get.”

And we'd have to agree, for any salon to slip a major hair killer into a clients shampoo without getting permission is almost a low-level crime in my opinion. How is that any different that punching a hole in someone's tire on purpose?

Ridiculous!

How would you have handled this situation OMGers? Would you have sued?

Natural Hair Workshop Reaches Australia!

Without a doubt, the natural hair movement is still going strong and spreading all over the world.

On Saturday May 14, 2016, naturalista and boutique owner Allison Owens held the first natural hair workshop in Adelaide South Australia.

While natural hair workshops and meetups have become commonplace in America, such events are unheard of in Australia.

The workshop, “No More Dry Hair: the LOC & LCO Methods” was held at Sassy Kinks & Coils Boutique, the first natural hair store in South Australia.

Surrounded by American made natural hair products such as Sheamoisture, Jessicurl, Cantu and Tgin, Allison discussed the steps of the LOC & LCO methods and demonstrated how to apply the techniques.

The excited attendees got a chance to purchase natural hair products at the end of the workshop.

Allison intends to host a natural hair workshop/meetup the second Saturday of each month as a means of supporting women on their natural hair journey.

21 Photos That Prove "The Shrinkage Is REAL!"

Please click the Facebook SHARE BUTTON on the upper-left to share BlackHairOMG with friends, it helps us keep writing free info!

"The shrinkage is real!"

How many times have you heard that? Probably a lot.

Why? Because so many of us are self-conscious about our hair length and want to grow it longer so that everyone can clearly see it.

But it's time to embrace your curls and love the MAGIC that you have happening on top of your head.

One of the biggest reasons women with curly & kinky hair have a problem with shrinkage is because so many people outside of black culture or natural hair culture have NO IDEA that you are blessed with so much hair. They think that if your kinky/curl hair is sitting at 7 inches, you only have 7 inches of hair.

Well... NO.

That is how life is for women with straight hair, but many curly-haired naturals that have hair sitting at 7 inches in front of the naked eye could EASILY be flaunting 14-20+ inches of lusciousness.

So BlackHairOMG wants to make sure that more and more people realize this phenomenon on natural black hair.

We have pulled together this amazing PHOTO GALLERY of some of the DOPEST shrinkage comparison pics that you'll ever see.

Don't ever let yourself think that your hair isn't growing because the length is hidden in the curls and kinks, your hair grows like crazy when you treat it right.
