I think you're gonna absolutely love this tutorial for doing a perm rod set on short natural hair! So dope. And look...
One of the BEST THINGS about Alisa's video tutorial is that her information is straight to the point, not a bunch of fluff like some vids, it's just helpful step-by-step instructions and real help. On top of that, she went the extra mile that you hardly ever see from YouTube hair channels...
Alisa is the TRUE MVP for showing how you keep this style overnight, SO HELPFUL! That part is ALWAYS MISSING in tutorials.
Her Hair Not Short Enough For You?
The only half-way complaint/compliment I saw from the ladies who watched the vid is that some were saying that Alisa's hair isn't truly "short". Some said she's just being modest and that she only had shrinkage instead of short hair. Shoooot, well if so, here's the deal...
Even if your hair is too short to do her style at the moment, this FANTABULOUSNESS will give you the motivation to keep growing. Those curls turned out BOMB honey!

Hack #1 - Supercharged Detangling: This is the perfect detangler tip for that anyone whose conditioner may not be enough to get the job done.
Here's what you do, take your favorite conditioner as well as any type of anti-frizz product or a thick oil.
You can use coconut oil, premium-grade 100% PURE avocado oil, grapeseed oil or one of your other favorites. Now put about 1/4 of a cup inside your conditioner bottle, make sure to shake it up after and then to detangle your hair, it'll make detangling so much faster and you'll be able to just glide right through your hair and detangle the kinks and curls like a BOSS!
Hack#2 - Gel On The Go: If you're always on the go or travel a lot, this is for you. All you need is a small empty container your favorite gel.
Just take about a tablespoon or two of your gel and seal it up and throw it in your mini-container. That way no matter where you go, you'll have your gel in your bag to touch up some frizzy ends or just touch on your edges no matter where you are.
Hack #3- Hair Elastics On Deck: This is a cool hack so that you will always have a hair elastic on you, ready to roll! So for example if you are rockin' a bun in your hair and your elastic ties break because you have a lot of hair, you can take a few hair elastics and I attach them to your keychain!
Just use some industrial clips so that you can easily clip them on and off.
Or you can easily just add the hair elastics to the regular key loop that you have on your keys and that way no matter where you are you always have hair elastics and you never have to worry about it.

When it comes to protective hairstyles, box braids are a classic! Not only are they a statement-making hairstyle, they are affordable and low maintenance.
Box braids and twists are perfect as they will allow you to play around with size, length, texture and color.
Actress Tasha Smith with gorgeous faux locs
Faux locs (or goddess braids) are ALWAYS a show-stopper type of style. As the name suggests, faux locs resemble dreadlocks but they give you the look, not to mention the length, without the years of commitment.
Faux locs are also a great way to keep a bit of tropical inspiration with you as you go through the cold months. They'll have you feeling like you're in Jamaica walking along the beach with jerk chicken and oxtails Bumbaclottin'! LOL!
Actress Lupita Nyong’o with cornrows
Cornrows can be the simplest of the protective hairstyles but that isn’t to say they can’t be versatile and creative. Cornrows are the easiest to pair with other styles. So you can protective style your hair with cornrows and still wear a wig in that final week when the hair is in its ripest stage.
Or add a puff or ponytail (depending on your hair’s texture). Cornrows can be dressed up or down, it all depends on what you want to do.
Wigs are versatile
There’s no better time to wear a wig than in winter. Wigs can be the main act of your protective styling or it can act as a change-up from your other style.
The thing to remember when using wigs as your protective style is that you will still have to take the step of braiding your hair under the wig – be it cornrows or another style.
Bob Cut Braids
Say goodbye to heavy braid top knots
The bob cut braids are a classic yet edgy 1990s throwback hairstyle that all your style icons and idols from the 1990s had. Bob cut braids are a perfect protective hairstyle for someone who has grown tired of box braids and is looking to try something new.
The Sho Madjozi
All your nieces have probably had this style in recent time and there’s no denying its relevance. Both playful and cute, this style is where cornrows meet braids and it can be versatile in execution.
As long as you take care of the hair beneath your protective style and keep an eye on your hairline, you will thank yourself for protective styling during the cold months come summer.
Ohhh, the dreaded product buildup, you can see it and even smell it at times. It's not just harmless gunk, what it does to your hair follicles and scalp can be a hair killer.
Now look, nobody is gonna stop using product, we aint crazy. Let keep it real, without the assistance of good hair products, straight, curly, and kinky hair would ALL look a hot mess. Lol...
The Growth-Slowing Hair-Harming Dangers of Product Build-Up
Out of fear developing product build up a lot of people in the natural hair community have cut back on using a ton of products.
When we say "product build-up", we're talking about the gradual accumulation of products on your scalp and/or your hair strands. THE GUNK!
The build-up we end up with is actually a combination of a few things...
Products you manually put in your hair.
Your scalps natural oil called 'sebum'.
Thousands of tiny dust particles from the air.
All of that creates build up...
As this combination of substances accumulate, they mix together to create a thick gooey substance filled with potentially harmful bacteria.
You Need Washing Practices To Prevent NOT Remove Build-Up
This is major, if you're noticing thick gunk under your fingernails your follicles are already compromised and your scalp is already starting to get inflamed and irritated depending on many factors like your hair regimen, whether you live an active or non-active lifestyle and your environment.
Everyone gets to this point of product build-up different rates.
So when deciding on a wash day routine your goal should be to avoid this buildup from accumulating altogether rather than waiting for it to happen before washing your hair.
Nobody is perfect, and most of us are guilty, at one time or another, of waiting for the gunky build-up to accumulate before deciding to wash our lusciousness and get the gunk up outta here!
How Gunk Affects Your HAIR STRANDS Specifically
Ok so, both of these situations STINK! But they are unique situations, with different types of harm caused.
Build- up on your scalp effects and behaves differently than build up on your hair strands.
See, your hair strands that are healthy and free of buildup behave and reacts to moisture when water is introduced depending on your hairs porosity level, it soaks up what it can, your hair strands swell up, getting FULL, and then they quickly lets go of excess water.
That makes your hair strands more pliable and flexible, more resistant to breakage and well moisturized until it eventually releases the remaining water into the atmosphere.
When your hair strands are experiencing build-up, this gunky mess creates a barrier between the water and your hair making it difficult for your hair to soak up the moisture.
Without access to moisture, your gunked up hair strands are more prone to breakage.
On top of that, light can no longer reflect on your cuticles due to the uneven surface the buildup creates on your hair strands, causing your hair to lose a sheen and appear dull build.
How Gunk Affects Your SCALP Specifically
Product Build-up on your scalp is a lot different and can lead to more serious issues, especially for highly-textured hair.
Your scalp is part of your skin, in fact, it's the thickest area of skin on your whole body.
But it STILL can also be just as sensitive as a skin on your face.
Making things worse, this dark moist environment of your scalp is a perfect place for harmful bacteria to multiply, so it's important to give this area extra attention.
Your EVER-IMPORTANT sebum is a thin acidic oil created underneath your scalp that secretes out of the scalp.
The purpose of this oil is to slide down, coat and protect your hair strands but with highly textured hair the loops and bends make it difficult for the sebum to slide down, causing a lot of this oil to back up and accumulate on your scalp.
On top of that, very tiny dust particles from the air easily sticks to the sebum ,after a while this built up mixture accumulates so much that it becomes visible.
It's easy to see how adding products to your scalp will increase the accumulation of buildup.
What makes build up on your scalp so difficult is due to its dark warm and moist environment bacteria has a perfect opportunity to grow and multiply.
Some of this bacterium filled gunk will eventually penetrate into your follicles interrupting the activity going on in your hair bulb which can dramatically change the quality of your hair that goes out the follicle prolonged build-up can also cause infections. Don't worry though, I'm working on a new article that will teach you how to properly remove buildup and identify which products are causing it.
Girl, let's be real... The perfect wash n go product for your natural hair can be hard to find! So for Nia to take more than a week to TEST, SHOW and PROVE her result on camera is a huge help.
I saw products that I'd never heard of and she hadn't heard of a couple of them herself before finding custards for her test. Seeing her show products that best bring out the natural clumping and pattern on her hair can save you and me money.
Nice Quick Wash N'Go Tips That Make a Difference In Your Results
One way that many of us totally mess up our wash n' go before it even gets to "go", is not having our hair wet enough (soaking wet) before adding product.
THIS...IS...CRITICAL Lovelies! Pay attention.
Wash n' go styling requires wet hair, so it's best to do it in the shower. Your hair need to be soaking wet, not just damp. Then let it dry afterwards, of course.
More Smart Tips For Your Wash n' Go Efforts
If you have very coily 4c hair that doesn't want to be defined, use your finger to work the curls.
If you put too much product on your hair, use a t-shirt to remove the excess, never use a towel to remove the excess, towels will promote breakage.
Here's The Video Testing 8 Different Brands - * Different Days
I don't think that's cheating at all, her fave should DEFINITELY be in the competition.
And even more proof that she was unbiased is that one of the OTHER competing products WON the contest, not because it performed better though, they both performed equally as good but the winning custard was HALF THE PRICE of her fave!

VIDEO: Why I hate The Natural Hair Community!
Here's another comment that was totally agreeing with and loving the message....
"First off, I totally agree with you on this. The only time a blogger with 4C hair gets love is when he/she makes their 4C hair look like something other than 4C hair. BUT... that's our fault. The problem is that those in the natural hair movement want to be inclusive, to a fault.
The movement was started by 4C black women who were tired of having their natural hair rejected and were tired of being pressured by society to manipulate and change their hair to the point of damaging it..."

Regis and Kahran are a Husband/wife dynamic duo in Atlanta, GA who specialize in lifestyle and children's photography at CreativeSoul Photography. And they are AMAZING AT IT.
They bring their Afrocentric, artistic visions to the forefront in ways many photographers could only dream of.
Their AfroArt series is both visually inspiring and uplifting.
They captured the true essence and beauty of natural-haired Black girls and boys. What was their motivation?
They wanted for more young Black girls to be exposed to more positive and beautiful images of themselves and their natural hair in media and online.
When you see the work of Regis and Kahran, you'll surely agree that they have created and captured a spectacular display of Black Girl Magic that would make any person of African descent smile.
[ See Reviews for Amaki Beauty Oil w/ Blend of Jojoba, Sweet Almond, Rosehip, Primrose, Argan, Jasmine RIGHT HERE...]
The stunning images feature the young girls as the SLAY in elaborate costuming and creatively scintillating natural hairstyles.
A Mission To Accomplish
“We feel that it is so important for kids of color to be able to see positive images that look like them in the media,” said Kahran. “Unfortunately the lack of diversity often plays into the stereotypes that they are not ‘good enough’ and often forces kids to have low self-esteem.”
Seeing that such feelings are common among children who are not represented, the couple fights against these negative feelings by showcasing Black kids whose elegance and regality prove all too well that they love how they look.
One of the things that is so impressive about these hairstyle images is the wide range of styles, they truly capture the versatility and flair of afro-hair.
Going Out Of Their Way For Black Beauty
The Series of AfroArt came together from CreativeSoul Photo’s travels. The couple worked on these series in various U.S. states (California, Georgia, New York, Texas, Georgia).
Every state that they visited, they created a different theme and came up with clothing pieces and accessories that went with that theme.
And truly, the way they arranged these different looks ON THE SPOT, just shows that Hollywood still doesn't have all the talent that exists out in the skreetz, ha.
On set, they literally just styled everything on the fly and worked with their hairstylist to create unique looks for each kid model.
Like.... Who knows how to do something THIS unique and GORGEOUS, ON...THE...FLY? We are wonderfully made!
So take a look at how their vision of brilliant Black beauty on children with natural hair turned out.
