3 Ways to Air-Dry Your Natural Hair

AIR-DRYING??? Hecks-to-the-YEAH!!!

"AIR-DRYING MY NATURAL HAIR?!?!? Awwww Hecks NAW!"

That's not what this young sista named Kiara said while showing you how to air-dry LIKE A BOSS after she used The L.O.C. Method.

Still though...

"HECKY NAW" is what a lot of folks say about air-drying and that's a mistake you MUST avoid if you want the healthiest hair possible.

Don't be scuuuuured girl, ha! When you hear the words "air-drying" do you start running for the hills?

Are you scared your hair is gonna turn into a tangled bird’s nest?

Yes? OK, well, just recognize the fact that you are trippin' right now and let's K.I.M. peeples....

For the Suburbanites among us, K.I.M. means "keep it movin''  If you speak in Ol' Otis dialect, it's KOM. (Keep On Movin')

My advice is that you listen to Ol' Otis unless you wanna get roasted, lol.

K.O.M. Russ Parr or Get Roasted By Ol' Otis

Anywaaaayz, foolishness aside.

This super-helpful video from a little-known BELOW from a cute lil' YouTuber caught my eye and I want to share her knowledge with you and hopefully get this young sista a few more subscribers.

This video tutorial will help you put the blow dryer down. Maybe not for good, but long enough to get some health back on your scalp.

Pros and Cons of Air-Drying Natural Hair

A lot of Lovelies think that they can get the same results either way, whether they are air-drying or blow-drying with heat.

So I'm gonna take a minute to break down for you the different results you get when you air dry your natural hairstyle vs. when you sit under a hood dryer and heat.

PROS:

  • With air drying your natural textured hair, you are helping your hair stay more moisturized, that's MAJOR. You see...
  • Skipping the damaging heat of the dryer is a must if you already have dry hair. And it also saves a bunch of time.
  • It's such a time-saver, you can simply wash and style your hair and go. And if you want to use the dryer to speed things up, just sit under that bad girl for maybe 5 minutes or so, and bounce.

CONS:

Nothing is perfect love... We don't promise perfection. So here are some downsides to air drying...

  • The thing that some naturals say about air-drying is that it does not leave your hair looking as polished as a blow dryer. Especially for thick type 4 hair. The thicker your hair then the longer it takes to dry, you already know girl....
  • Your hair is probably not going to be as shiny as it would be with heat drying and it might not last as long. By sitting under the dryer you reduce the amount of puffiness and frizz.
  • The dryer allows your defined curls to set much quicker which leads to a polished finished with shine. Something that is hard to get with air drying.

But liiiiisten Lovely.... YOU WILL SEE THE BENEFITS if you air-dry your hair, it's so natural and helpful. Check it out!

VIDEO TUTORIAL: 3 Ways to Air Dry Natural Hair

NOW LOOK....

For overall hair health, air-drying is something to embrace.

You won't damage the structure of your hair like you do when applying heat and your hair live to try various hairstyles that would never be achieved with burnt out, damaged hair.

Skeptical About Air-Drying Your Natural Hair?

If you’re skeptical about the benefits of drying your hair this way, I recommend doing a test trial. Section and braid/twist your hair as usual, but leave one section in the back of your hair to air dry in the way described in the video.

If you find that your hair tangles or that it simply isn’t worth the effort then you’ll only have one section to restyle.

However, I think you’ll find that these techniques will DEFINITELY help sistas with thick hair to dry their hair much more quickly than normal air-drying tactics,  and will also effectively prep your hair for stretched full natural hairstyles whenever you want.

Below I have posted my 2 favorite videos from her on the subject. One focuses more on teaching you how to do it, the other one is more focused on the actual science of why it works.

Bill Nye the science guy ain't got NOTHIN' on this sista.

Compared to Nikki, Bill can go on ahead and have several of these...

  • Provides tons of slip to your hair and is great for detangling. Plus...
  • Every ingredient used in her herbal oil treatment product is 100% unrefined, organic and virgin grade (highest quality standard).

Video #2 Science of ONION JUICE and Natural Hair Growth

So as you can see... These step-by-step instructions for an Onion Juice recipe that will help grow your hair is using all-natural ingredients and is backed by science.

It doesn't get any better than this.

HELPFUL POINTERS TO REMEMBER:

  1. Onion Essential Oil also provides the same benefits. Onion essential oil is potent so make sure you mix it with a carrier oil. Black Castor Oil is a great option.
  2. To mask an onion smell, add essential oils to your shampoo to wash it out. Also, add an essential oil to whatever oil and/or cream you use to style your hair.
  3. Make sure to keep your eyes closed while washing out the onion juice recipe so the pepper does not get into your eyes.
  4. The cayenne pepper also does a great job at opening your pores on your face. So, this is a great time to use a really good facial moisturizer on your face b/c it will penetrate really well.

This hair growth elixir made from onions and cayenne might seem like it would stink, but the results are so sweet.

Stop the hair shedding, thicken your edges and growth that LUSCIOUS y'all!

You know whaaaaaaat??? Some of y'all are A MESS, LOL!

Soooo here's the deal... My girl Whitney A.K.A. "Naptural85" gave an amazing recipe for a DIY shampoo made from Alaffia - Authentic African Black Soap that she says is the "most moisturizing shampoo" she has EVER used.

And if Whitney says that, that's saying a whooooole lot, the girl aint no joke, she has Literally tested 100's and 100's of hair products on camera.

So then, riddle me this batman.... Why some of the ladies in the comment section start dragging Whitney because she said the recipe was "simple"??? LOL!  (light-heartedly draggin' though... No super-mean stuff thankfully...)

For instance, check out this comment from Brianna Evans about the claim that the recipe is easy:

"I promise you guys it's super easy"  ?  *then uses 30 different expensive essential oils

Brianna betta get up off my girl! And got 260 dang "LIKES" on her sarcastic-behind-comment haa!

Others were saying that they aint got enough money to be buying ALL THESE INGREDIENTS.

Now I'll admit that it's not the cheapest recipe, she used 10 ingredients besides water. BUT THE RECIPE IS BOMB! Let that sista be great and teach y'all to be great too, haaa!

The DIY shampoo recipe incorporates the medicinal power of Alaffia African Black Soap, along with 9 essential oils & nutrients known to get your hair regenerating by regulating sebum production, and heal scalp damage!

Here's the complete list of ingredients for Whitney's Super-Moisturizing, hair growth shampoo:

How To Pineapple Natural Hair & SAVE Your Curls! [Tutorial]

LOOK TO THE LEFT OF THIS PAGE and SHARE THIS article on Facebook or Twitter for your friends, it will help us keep providing free info too!

The genius of the Natural Hair community is ALWAYS on display. The different ways that we invent homemade natural hair & beauty products and creative ways to protect our lusciousness in order to keep the curls POPPIN' never stop! And one great example of this is the nighttime hairstyle started by beautiful naturals called "pineappling".

When you stop over-shampooing your hair, it's a MUST that we find ways to make that BELOVED wash day definition last much longer. And guess what boo!! Pineappling is a wonderful technique for preserving those precious curls while you're rolling around in bed (snoring all loud, lol), giving you your best 2nd, 3rd and even 4th day hair.

What is a Pineapple Protective Style

Gotta love that protective pineapple, haa. The pineapple is a loose, high ponytail on top of your head, that prevents the frizz, knots and flattened curls that come with lying on a pillow. This way, only the sides and back of your hair will be subject to your tossing and turning.

What You'll Need To Pineapple Your Hair

The scrunchie or ponytail holder should be loose/tight enough that you loop it around your hair just once if possible. This stops a dent or crease from forming while you sleep. Many naturals prefer to use a satin scrunchie to stop accidental hair breakage and that depressing feeling of tearing hair out with normal hair ties. Ugh...

Many natural ladies also wrap their pineapple in a satin scarf or bonnet to protect their hair from the knots and dryness that comes with rubbing on a pillow, but if you don’t like to sleep with that on your head you can just sleep on a satin pillowcase.

What If You Have Type 4 Coils

If you have highly-textured type 4 hair, you may find that scrunchies or elastic still leaves an indentation in your luscious natural hair, if that's happens then you can pineapple just using a satin scarf and bonnet. This is especially helpful for shorter hair.

How to Pineapple

Now remember, this is pineapple is going to be a very loose ponytail, so we suggest that you start pineappling it right before you lay down for the night. It may slip a little but your hair should still be protected and don't forget your satin pillowcase boo!

  1. BEND all the way forward.
  2. GENTLY gather your hair on top of your head.
  3. SLIDE a scrunchie, elastic or special No-Crease Snap-Off Hair Tie around the base of the ponytail only once (or as loosely as possible) The looser the better to avoid creasing.
  4. *OPTIONAL STEP: You can clip the ends of your pineapple to your head or try NOT TO pull the ends all the way through to create a loose bun.
  5. PUT ON your bonnet or scarf last.

How to Take Down Your Protective Pineapple

The pineapple takedown is as important as putting it up. You can’t simply take your hair out of a pineapple and expect to walk out of the crib, you'll need to perk things up with some light styling.

This is how our Type 4a Editor Amanda takes down her pineapple.

Now don't get me wrong, a pineapple is definitely not the only way to sleep with curly natural hair. If you've tried it and it didn't work for you, that's OK. We'll be highlighting other methods to protect the luscious, so stay tuned Lovelies!

Top 10 Natural Remedies to Strengthen Your Hair

Please click the Facebook SHARE BUTTON on the upper-left to share BlackHairOMG with friends, it helps us keep writing free info!

Natural hair is a real luxury and our absolute PRIDE when it is healthy and well-groomed. So let's talk about how to keep our lusciousness looking irresistible and on full "POPPIN'" status when heat, dust, salt water, and other factors regularly damage it, causing the hair loss, split ends, and lack of shine.

The answer to this problem isn't tough to find though. It doesn't necessarily have to consist of expensive salon treatments and using professional high-class hair products (which are not always as great as adevertised).

If you really want to restore a healthy look, shine, and the beauty of your hair, turn to these natural remedies for help. They are the option number one not only due to their cosmetic effect, but also the healing properties.

  1. Magic of Vegetable Oils

When talking about natural remedies for hair, we simply can’t ignore vegetable oils, so they are deservedly at the top of our list. It’s well-known that plant oils are a gold mine of vitamins and nutrients, they easily penetrate to the hair shafts to help retain moisture. Use olive, burdock, coconut, argan, rosemary, jojoba oils to restore hair that has become damaged from curling irons and coloring, to add a natural shine, healthy look, softness, and resilience to your hair. You can either rub the pure oil into the scalp or make a natural hair mask:

  • The hair mask with burdock oil is a simple and effective way of nourishing the hair follicles and is perfect for all types of hair. Mix 2 tablespoons of oil with an egg yolk and massage your scalp with a warm mask for a few minutes, rubbing it into the skin and curls, focusing on the tips. Then, wash your hair with an ordinary shampoo. Use this remedy once a week.
  • Take 3 tablespoons of olive oil and add 5 drops of the ylang-ylang essence, apply this mixture on wet hair and сover it with a shower cap. Keep this remedy on your head for about 15 minutes, after that thoroughly wash the hair.

If your hair is naturally oily, don’t abuse vegetable oil treatment, while the dry hair can be restored in this way even twice a week.

  1. Onion Juice Treatment

Do you know that the onion is extremely rich in vitamins and has medical properties? Can you imagine those fantastic results you’ll get after regular usage of onion masks?

  • Grate 1 onion and squeeze out the juice. Then add 2 tablespoons of burr or castor oil, 2 teaspoons of squeezed lemon juice, and a banana mashed with a fork. Apply the mixture from roots to tips and leave it on for about 15 minutes. The mask is perfect for weakened hair with oily roots.

Onion juice significantly heals, strengthens, revitalizes the hair, accelerates its growth, prevents and stops hair loss, improving the structure of your curls as a whole. The only con of the onion treatment is the smell you can’t get rid off when your hair is getting wet.

  1. Power of Eggs for Afro Curls

Most of the nutrients of the egg are concentrated in the yolk – it’s a trove of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Vitamins A, D, E, B, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, folic and nicotinic acids restore the hair structure, strengthen, refresh and tone, prevent hair loss and stimulate growth, protect from negative environmental factors, make your curls smooth and shiny.

  • Try the egg yolk shampoo instead of your ordinary one twice a month to give your cute curls a new life. Beat 2 yolks, add 2 teaspoons of purified water and 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oil.
  • Or treat your hair with this fairy egg yolk mask: make a mixture of 2 yolks, 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoon of castor oil and a teaspoon of brandy (or cognac), heat it up and apply from roots to tips. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and a terry towel. Keep this remedy for 1-2 hours and wash with your favorite shampoo.

  1. Exotic Coconut

Coconut is rich in proteins, iron, potassium, and other essential nutrients, so that it promotes hair growth, repairs damaged hair, prevents hair loss, breakage and dandruff.

  • Use a clear coconut milk or oil: gently massage the product all over your scalp (or on the targeted areas only), keep it overnight and shampoo as usual next morning.
  • Experiment with coconut oil mask: mash a half of banana with a fork and add 2 tbsp of coconut oil and 1 tbsp of sour cream. Mix all ingredients thoroughly and heat the remedy up, apply on the hair and rinse off in 30-40 minutes.

  1. Honey Natural Care

Honey is another natural remedy that your curly hair is gonna fall in love with. No matter if you use it in its pure form or as a part of a homemade hair mask, honey will restore your hair, prevent loss and can even be used as a lighter.

  • Honey conditioner recipe: mix 100 g of heated on a water bath honey and 2 tbsp of olive oil. Massage it over the scalp and keep for 40-50 minutes, then rinse with a mild shampoo. Besides strengthening, this remedy will moisturize, nourish, and stimulate the hair growth, making your natural locks silky and shiny.
  • Another honey-based mask idea: all you need is 1 tbsp of honey and the same amount of aloe juice. This treatment should be applied for about 10 minutes before washing the hair twice a week. Besides, this super mask has a great advantage: it can be kept in a fridge, prepared in advance.

  1. Avocado in Action

Avocado fruit is an excellent means for growing and strengthening natural hair. Whether it is the fruit, seed or its oil, avocado contains all necessary vitamins, potassium, iron, folic acid, and copper. This winning mix of nutrients makes all avocado-based hair masks one of the most effective for home hair treatment and restoration.

  • Make a hair mask with a mashed ripe avocado, 1 tbsp of olive or jojoba oil and another tablespoon of yogurt. Use this remedy once a week to maintain the luxury look of your Afro curls.
  • Besides, you can massage avocado oil into your scalp once or twice a week to keep your hair moisturized enough, healthy and shiny.

  1. The Best of the Dairy Products

Do you suffer from excessive dryness of hair or tips? If so, this hair conditioning treatment with mayonnaise is what you need! However, ladies with normal hair can also get additional nutrition and moisturizing, following this easy tip:

  • Apply mayonnaise to wet hair and leave it on your head for 1 hour. Then rinse it well and shampoo. Voila! Your hair will be grateful!

Yogurt is the second best dairy product for hair treatment, strengthening and preventing dandruff.

  • Take a pure yogurt and spread it over the hair, massaging it into the scalp. Then cover the hair with a plastic bag and wrap with a towel for about 20 minutes. After that shampoo your hair like you always do it.

  1. Rye bread = Strengthening + Growth

The use of rye bread (which is rich in B vitamins) for hair helps to prevent hair loss, strengthen, normalize the hydrolipid balance of the scalp, as well as to clean it mildly.

  • Soak some slices of rye bread in water, then mash it with hands and add a couple drops of camphor oil. Apply this mixture on your hair, cover it with a plastic bag and a towel. In one hour shampoo your flirty locks thoroughly to be sure no bread crumbs left in your shag.

  1. Hair Conditioning with Apple Cider Vinegar

Our hair has an ideal pH of 4 to 5. The acidity of the apple cider vinegar rinse means that it helps maintain the pH balance of your hair and remove buildup without stripping the hair of its natural oils at the same time.

  • Apple cider vinegar should be used instead of your regular hair conditioner after shampooing your hair. Just dilute 2 tablespoons of ACV with 1 cup of water and apply this mixture after shampooing, massage your scalp during a couple of minutes and then rinse your hair thoroughly.

  1. Lemon Juice for Healthy Hair

Ordinary lemon is a strongly recommended and trusted ingredient to fight against hair loss and strengthen it. Containing vitamins C, B, and various minerals, the lemon has become a must-have of many homemade masks and conditioners.

  • Squeeze 2 lemons into a cup of water and use this mixture after shampooing just like it’s described in paragraph 9 about the apple cider vinegar.

P.S. Remember Lovelies, love yourself and take care of your gorgeous hair to look your best and turn a lot of heads under any circumstances. Use rich gifts of nature, listed above, to restore, strengthen and treat your magnificent curls. And if it’s not enough for you, check out one extra sweet idea of natural remedy for hair strengthening right below!

Grow Your Hair With This Delicious SUPER-Fruit... ? [2018]

Please click the Facebook SHARE BUTTON on the upper-left to share BlackHairOMG with friends, it helps us keep writing free info!

What are two things that most of us "Lovelies" go crazy for???

Tell me I'm lying, when I say "great food and THE BOMB hair".

If I'm lyin', I'm flyin'.... And I aint went no-dang-where yet.... Lol!

The cool thing is... Sometimes something delicious can actually help you reach you hair greatness goals.

Y'all betta recognize the gang of benefits that certain fruits and vegetables can offer your hair, it's for real. The whole ‘juice and berries’ concept isn’t bad AT ALL.

There are recipes for beauty regimens that contain everything from egg shells to rice water, and their uses have been passed down for generations among many cultures. One deliciously beneficial ingredient is the Paw-Paw fruit, also known as Papaya.

[Follow BlackHairOMG on Instagram we got the hair pics & videos FOR DAYS!]

Paw-Paw A.K.A Papaya A.K.A. Hair & Scalp Helper!

The papaya contains a large amount of Vitamin C, which is key for its restorative and healing properties. It also contains about 224% of your daily needs of vitamins and mineral. The papaya enzyme called papain breaks down proteins, fats and carbohydrates and works to prevent stomach disorders, diabetes, colorectal cancers, intestinal parasite infections, nerve pains and even elephantoid growths.

Carpaine is another chemical that the papaya has that kills off certain parasite infections. Papaya also has a host of other vitamins, acids, enzymes and minerals such as magnesium, copper, fiber, folic acid, vitamins E, A, B6, B1, beta carotene, and riboflavin. The chemical compounds in papaya are so effective that many people take the papaya enzymes in pill form.

What Papaya Does For Your Hair

As we talked about in or Water Only Washing for hair health article, healthy sebum promotes hair growth.

The folic acid that papaya contains, as well as the Vitamin C improve circulation blood circulation throughout your scalp. The result of this is that your scalp is fed the nutrients and minerals that are needed to encourage healthy hair growth and stimulate your ever-important sebaceous glands. The sebum that is produced nourishes, conditions and protects the scalp, providing a healthy environment for new growth to flourish.

How To Use Papaya Topically

  • Blend 1 cup of papaya with 1 cup carrier oil and ½ cup Aloe Vera juice. Apply this mixture to your scalp and let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Hair Growth Isn't The Only Reason To Get Your Paws on Some Paw-Paw!

Papaya is used for getting rid of nasty dandruff too. Because papaya contains so much Vitamin C and A, it aids in the removal of dead skin cells, encourages healthy cell regeneration and nourishes your hair shaft. If you’re fighting against that dirty-lookin' dandruff, papaya could be the solution to your problems.

Papaya seeds have complex anti-fungal properties that help ward off and prevent dandruff. You can either use papaya seed oil, or you can blend the papaya seeds together with a good carrier oil to make a paste, apply it to the scalp and rinse out.

Product Build Up BE DARNED!

Product build-up and dead scalp skin are two major problems associated with stagnant hair growth. When the pores of your scalp are clogged, girrrrrrl, you are beggin' for trouble. they don’t get the nutrients and moisture that is needed to produce sebum. This can cause hair fall,

In that condition, your scalp doesn't get the nutrients and moisture that is needed to make hair-health promoting sebum. This can cause hair fall, dandruff and even make that your precious new growth is all brittle and ready to break of before it can even do anything. Papaya can remove residue, excess oils and dirt, from both the hair and scalp.

A DOPE Natural Conditioner!

The same enzymes that are used to tenderize meat also have a conditioning effect on the hair. We talked about how papaya can remove product build-up on your luscious tresses. Now once that gunky build-up is gone, your cuticles are able to open up and suck up that moisture and those nutrients can be infused into your hair shaft, and then shut back so that the moisture and nutrients are locked in.

You can find many products that contain papaya leaf extract which has been shown to revitalize and condition hair, or you could blend ½ of a papaya with 1 cup of yogurt and 1 tbsp. of honey to make your own homemade conditioner.

☺ ? The Perfect Perm Rod Set for Thick TYPE 4 Hair

Please click the Facebook SHARE BUTTON on the upper-left to share BlackHairOMG with friends, it helps us keep writing free info!

If you have very thick type 4 hair, you probably know how difficult it can be to get those SUPER-DEFINED curls that you see so often featured on our Instagram.

But don't even trip honey, because your girl NaturallyTemi grabbed her camera, her Hydratherma Foaming Mousse, Jsheaoil and a ton of assorted sized perm rods just so she could teach you how to get the most POPPINEST CURLS (LOL) in the building! Fried chicken grease don't POP like this boo!

What's really dope is that she give a 360 view of the curls after she's done droppin' some knowledge on you. She aint playin' round....

[Follow BlackHairOMG on Instagram we got the hair pics & videos FOR DAYS!]

Here are her products of choice in this BOMB VIDEO TUTORIAL...

She wrote about the style too. She says she usually gets about 5-6 days from this super-defined style.

As far as maintenance goes, she keeps her hairstyle together once it is out of the curl rods by putting it in 3 ponytails and putting a hair bonnet on. She fluffs and shakes that bad girl in the morning and BAM! Ready to go!

Temi says that the Hydratherma Foaming Mousse helps retain moisture in her hair to an extent, but the leave-in she puts in before the mousse on is what mainly keeps her hair super-moisturized. She also mentions that she definitely prefers Hydratherma Foaming Mousse over the popular Creme of Nature Foaming Mousse.

The "Awww HECKY NAW" Moment of the Video

There was one big drawback to this hairstyle for folks that might be a little on the "lazy natural" side, or simply "AINT GOT TIME FOR ALLDAT!"... What's the big downer you ask?

Well... She mentions that she left the rollers in for two days! TWO DANG DAYS! Girrrrrrrl..... But I admit, it was super-cute and she says didn't go out much in those days and if she did need to go out she would wear a cute hair scarf.

So pretty much, try doing this style when you know you don't have to be anywhere for a couple days, lol. Netflix and chill on them fools, then step out like BOW! Curl on super-defined Fleek mode! Check out the video below!

BTW... Some of the ladies were askin' about that FIRE lipstick she was wearing, she says it is from the Colouredrainelipstick line, it's call "2am".
