"AIR-DRYING MY NATURAL HAIR?!?!? Awwww Hecks NAW!"
That's not what this young sista named Kiara said while showing you how to air-dry LIKE A BOSS after she used The L.O.C. Method.
"HECKY NAW" is what a lot of folks say about air-drying and that's a mistake you MUST avoid if you want the healthiest hair possible.
Don't be scuuuuured girl, ha! When you hear the words "air-drying" do you start running for the hills?
Are you scared your hair is gonna turn into a tangled bird’s nest?
Yes? OK, well, just recognize the fact that you are trippin' right now and let's K.I.M. peeples....
For the Suburbanites among us, K.I.M. means "keep it movin'' If you speak in Ol' Otis dialect, it's KOM. (Keep On Movin')
My advice is that you listen to Ol' Otis unless you wanna get roasted, lol.
K.O.M. Russ Parr or Get Roasted By Ol' Otis
Anywaaaayz, foolishness aside.
This super-helpful video from a little-known BELOW from a cute lil' YouTuber caught my eye and I want to share her knowledge with you and hopefully get this young sista a few more subscribers.
This video tutorial will help you put the blow dryer down. Maybe not for good, but long enough to get some health back on your scalp.
Pros and Cons of Air-Drying Natural Hair
A lot of Lovelies think that they can get the same results either way, whether they are air-drying or blow-drying with heat.
So I'm gonna take a minute to break down for you the different results you get when you air dry your natural hairstyle vs. when you sit under a hood dryer and heat.
With air drying your natural textured hair, you are helping your hair stay more moisturized, that's MAJOR. You see...
Skipping the damaging heat of the dryer is a must if you already have dry hair. And it also saves a bunch of time.
It's such a time-saver, you can simply wash and style your hair and go. And if you want to use the dryer to speed things up, just sit under that bad girl for maybe 5 minutes or so, and bounce.
Nothing is perfect love... We don't promise perfection. So here are some downsides to air drying...
The thing that some naturals say about air-drying is that it does not leave your hair looking as polished as a blow dryer. Especially for thick type 4 hair. The thicker your hair then the longer it takes to dry, you already know girl....
Your hair is probably not going to be as shiny as it would be with heat drying and it might not last as long. By sitting under the dryer you reduce the amount of puffiness and frizz.
The dryer allows your defined curls to set much quicker which leads to a polished finished with shine. Something that is hard to get with air drying.
But liiiiisten Lovely.... YOU WILL SEE THE BENEFITS if you air-dry your hair, it's so natural and helpful. Check it out!
VIDEO TUTORIAL: 3 Ways to Air Dry Natural Hair
For overall hair health, air-drying is something to embrace.
You won't damage the structure of your hair like you do when applying heat and your hair live to try various hairstyles that would never be achieved with burnt out, damaged hair.
Skeptical About Air-Drying Your Natural Hair?
If you’re skeptical about the benefits of drying your hair this way, I recommend doing a test trial. Section and braid/twist your hair as usual, but leave one section in the back of your hair to air dry in the way described in the video.
If you find that your hair tangles or that it simply isn’t worth the effort then you’ll only have one section to restyle.
However, I think you’ll find that these techniques will DEFINITELY help sistas with thick hair to dry their hair much more quickly than normal air-drying tactics, and will also effectively prep your hair for stretched full natural hairstyles whenever you want.
Look, there are a ton of great YouTubers that we know and have interviewed and are looking forward to talking to.

Review of some advanced features of FHI Heat Flat Irons
The Exclusive Proprietary Nano-Fuzeion™ Technology only exists in FHI products. They produce gently Far Infrared Heat, and low Electromagnetic Field is very effective for treating damaged hair gently.
Once you drag the flat iron on hair, it will lose heat, say, if the temperature set is 400F, when sliding the iron through your hair for a while, the temperature will drop to 390F. The FHI solved this problem with their RAPIDTEK™ Heating Technology which instantaneously balances heat lost to maintain the temperature consistently from the root to the bottom of your hair. This feature is only offered with the FHI Heat EPS Black Diamond Digital model. The ceramic tourmaline plates significantly reduce heat damage while treating your hair gently.
Check out FHI flat iron reviews from a pro hair dresser...
FHI Hair Iron Features and Design FHI has a selection of digital flat irons, such as the EPS and Runway models. You simply click the button + or – to adjust the heat level and the temperature is displayed on the LED screen.
Most of them will be automatically shut off after one hour if you're not using it. The ceramic plates can get to as high as 450F.
The plates are made by 3 layers of ceramic. However the Runway model – one of the most expensive flat irons on the market features 6 layers and the LED display on the ion will show different colors when temperatures change to suitable hair types: red, blue and green zone. Looking at this color code you will never fail to set the wrong temperature for your hair type, it amazingly indicates the color match exactly for your type of hair.
Quality What is about hair dry? No more, as claimed by FHI, the negative ions emits from the tourmaline surface lock in water in the hair retaining it the stable moisture condition. Every single product of FHI is made so that it gives you the most comfortable feeling while holding the iron in your hand. It's is very lightweight you can be straightening hair on clients for an hour without feeling that your muscles are getting tired. Another bonus from having an FHI flat iron is that if you suddenly want to start curling hair, and think of using curling iron, they give you everything you need to create that hairstyle in minutes!

One user and her sister have been using this flat iron and left this review...
My sister and I absolutely love this straightener, we would not trade this this for anything else. It came in on time with everything they said it would come with. We're blackgirls without perms and it does our hair wonders. I was recommended this product and decided to buy it off of Amazon seeing how it is one of my favorite sites to shop. The packaging was more than secure and I really appreciate that because it was a bit expensive. We still use it and have no complaints about it. I would definitely buy from this seller again and recommend all to choose this seller when buying hair products. Thank you
For those who use FHI the first time were impressive with the design, color, and result. One called it this is a curling iron and it works great on her natural hair. The iron gets hot very fast giving me a shiny straight look. If you have a natural hair like me, it is easy for you to straighten it at around 350F, a reviewer says.
Review of Platform PLUS Tourmaline Ceramic FHI Flat Irons

This model only features 1-inch plate width. All the features are the same as FHI Platform, however, it has ultra-curved edges, meaning aside from straightening, it is more suitably designed for curling hair.
Review Of The Run Way FHI Flat Iron
In the video an learn how to curl hair with a FHI Flat Iron
The Runway FHI Flat Iron is the highest quality FHI ceramic flat iron, it's used by Hollywood stars and famous hairstylists. This is truly an evolved state of the art and tech-savvy flat iron that guarantees you the best hair straightening experience. The ergonomic design, modern technological innovation and unmatched performance are the most appealing aspects of this styling tool. Due to high price tag above $500, they are mostly used in elegant salons. The Runway possesses the highest quality ceramic plates with 6 layers.
This Salon-Level Flat Iron Is Usually Priced Over $500
This model has superior ceramic plates, easy digital control and clear display as well visible colors on the LED to point out which temperature are being used.
Review of FHI Heat Flat Iron: EPS Black Diamond Digital.
Made with advanced technology, this hair styling tool will make you feel like you're using a smart device, the FHI Flat iron is the combination of technology and style and known for bringing the grooming industry’s latest developments. If you are addicted to smart devices, this is an ideal device you and for the tech-savvy stylists. The EPS iron features digital temperature control, color-coded for hair type and textures, and unmatched ceramic black diamond plates. The plates generate more 25% moisture-locking ions, drying out your hair will not be a major concern with this device.
The advantage of digital control is that you can change stepwise 1 degree, unlike conventional models there is limited setting( from 5 to 25).
The energy saving feature-sleeping mode will reduce the temperature into half after 3-minutes of non-use, then it will “awaken” when you touch it.
You see a lot of good things about FHI flat iron, there is a minor downside of this flat iron. Unlike other flat irons, EPS Black Diamond Digital doesn’t have the most common problem that comes from the heating such as the temperature of plates is not set exactly as number display on screen or on the dial. However, there are a couple of small complaints about the button for the digital model, some users find it is hard to press. It is not a big deal, above all, they are still a great value for the price.
I've only been using this for a week, but so far I'm very happy. I had a Solia straightener for close to 10 years which I loved, but this is better. It heats quickly, sleeps when inactive (great for me as I sometimes forget to turn off and unplug in the rush of the morning), and has been great at smoothing my very thick hair. I also like the carrying case and extra long cord, which has a Velcro attachment so that you can tie up the excess cord if you don't need it to stretch so far or when putting away. I bought this at the recommendation of my hair stylist and as long as it holds up, I think it was a great purchase.
If you are serious about using the best hair styling tools, you probably have a lot of experience with a variety of flat irons, and are able to compare different brands including Chi flat irons, Babyliss flat irons, GHDs, etc, each one have unique features, but this is one of the All-Star hair styling tools according to most FHI flat iron reviews from real customers. There are fhi flat iron reviews for African American hair, black and natural hair reviews are easy to find, we even have video for you. If you like to, you can read more FHI flat iron EPS reviews here.
Final thoughts about FHI Flat irons.
It is up to you to decide if one of the FHI flat iron models is perfect for your needs or not, we simply wanted to give you the info you need, look at the unique features of these best FHI flat iron tools in order to make it easy for you to pick up the right one.

Listen... I tested the crown hairs of 10 of my friends. Keep reading to see what I found.
This post is long but informative! I encourage you to read the whole thing to get all the info you need!
Ok so let's jump right into this tea, shall we?
You would think that our crown would be the most protected, less manipulated, and therefore the easiest part of our hair to grow and maintain length. Not so in many cases, hair breakage at the crown is a big problem. In fact, for some of us, it is the most fragile and kinkiest part of our hair. So what is going on up there?
Why Does Hair Breakage at The Crown Happen?
First, I want to say that not everyone is suffering from hair breakage at the crown. If you have a tighter texture up there, it could just be that you have more shrinkage at your crown than other areas of your hair. This could make it appear shorter when it really may not be.
However, because of this fact, you could be manipulating your crown more to help shape your hair into that ever so popular heart shape. If your crown has a ton of shrinkage then you're left with mullet shaped hair (lol) which leads to tons of over-manipulating to shape into a heart (put that hair pick down chile).
The over-usage of tools to shape your hair and volumize is a HUGE culprit in the crown breakage mystery. If your texture is tighter up there, it's probably more fragile and more prone to breakage, so the hair pick doesn’t make it any better.
The Test of 10 Friends - Hair Thinning at Crown or Nah?
So let's back up and talk about the structure of crown hair for a bit, shall we?
I asked 10 of my friends to come over my house and let me examine their scalps and crown hair. Of those 10 friends, 6 had crown issues. All 6 of the ones with crown issues had type 4 hair.
Of those 6, ALL of them had high porosity in that area, more shrinkage, suffered from reduced curl definition, breakage, frizz and dryness.
The 4 ladies without hair breakage at the crown were type 3 or less. Those 4 had normal porosity and didn’t suffer from any of the issues that my type 4 friends reported.
I then kicked those looser curled friends out of my house (just kidding)!
After speaking with the remaining 6 with crown issues, they reported that they use tools to help shape their crowns on a daily basis (over manipulation).
High Porosity Hair & Low Porosity Hair On The Same Head
So I'm about to get "Science-y" on y’all real quick. Let's circle back to porosity: Their porosity was different at their crown than any other area of their heads. They all had high porosity at their crown and normal or low porosity in most other areas of their hair. Strange right?
After they left, I kept their hair in little baggies.
No, I didn’t do voo-doo. I applied a mild protein treatment to each of their strands to see if the porosity would change after this. And sure enough it did!
Their little hairs either stayed on top of the water or floated to the middle. The protein filled in the little areas of their hair that were missing which initially caused their hairs to sink to the bottom. These missing areas contribute to the fragility of your hair strand and increase breakage.
These missing areas are also what causes high porosity hair which causes your hair to easily accept and lose moisture. Protein helps fill in those weak areas and controls your moisture retention rates.
A lot of naturals think they are "protein sensitive" and therefore stay away from proteins. However, our fragile Type 4 crowns seem to benefit best from proteins.
Yes, proteins may not give you that "slip" and they may leave your hair feeling like "straw". They are not meant to detangle they are meant to strengthen. So you may need to follow up behind that protein treatment with a moisturizing conditioner, but your hair will be stronger once that whole process is complete.
ONE WARNING HOWEVER:
Stop using protein when you notice that its cause MORE breakage. Too much protein can also be bad. There is a delicate balance between moisture and protein that needs to be achieved, but once it is, your hair will be stronger.
Why Type 4's Often Have High Porosity Hair at The Crown...
Now let's talk about WHY the porosity in that area is higher in the first place. The hair in that area is growing out a totally different texture than the rest of your hair. I don't know for sure, but I'm going to take an educated guess and say that those of us with Sub-Saharan African roots have developed this trait to help protect our heads from the harsh sun.
There are certain traits that we Africans have that other people don't which helped protect our ancestors from the hot conditions near the equator. Our dark skin, our wide noses, and our hair. So why would our crowns be any different?
If our crown hair didn't adapt and become kinkier to protect us from the harshness of the sun, our ancestors' scalps would've burned from the UV rays. Let's take a moment and appreciate the intricate way in which our God has shaped our bodies to protect us without us even knowing! (Praise break)
I'm more at peace knowingthat there's a real reason for my crown issues and not some genetic anomaly that caused this.
How To Fix Hair Breakage at The Crown
Now let's get into how to minimize the breakage up there and hair thinning at crown. Here are a few things you can do:
1♦ Treat your crown separately from the rest of your hair. Give it its own section on wash day and provide it with mild proteins every now and then. Also, moisturize and seal often. (see this article on Water Washing ONLY)
2♦ Reduce manipulation! Your crown is fragile due to its anatomic structure. The kinkier the hair, the more prone to hair breakage at the crown will be. You'll have to baby it instead of becoming frustrated with it and manipulating it more.
3♦ Which leads to my next point: Try to avoid using the pick so often. Instead of picking it out, you can use bobby pins to shape your hair.
4♦ Provide your crown with Oils that have UV protection to prevent hair breakage at the crown. Macadamia Nut Oil has an SPF of 6 and Red Raspberry Oil has an SPF of 4. Its not super high, but it may be just enough to make a difference.
5♦ Understand that even once it begins to retain length, it will still have more shrinkage than the rest of your hair. And that’s ok.
6♦ Reduce direct heat. Flat ironing and blow drying do not help your crown at all.

Girrrrrrrl, Teyana Taylor has been doing the media circuit in New York to promote her new show that she will be featuring in along with her husband, Iman Shumpert, and their adorable baby girl.
You see her blonde hair color and cut though?!?!
This woman's hair and style is FIERCE! She gonna have me grabbing some scissors in a minute if she don't stop playin' with my dang emotions, lol.
Everybody knows that Teyana Taylor used to have a head full of lusciously long hair, she would often give love and credit to Mane Choice hair vitamins, and maybe when/if she decides to grow her hair back, that will be her secret weapon again. But for now.... Honeeeeeey, she is ROCKIN' THE MESS outta that cut.
The crazy part is that I've NEVER been a fan of the blonde hair dye on black women, bit just never looked right TO ME (don't bite my head off for my humble opinion), but girrrrl, Teyana is changing my mind. At least she's changed my mind for how it fits her.
I will post a few pics below in the gallery so that you can see what I'm talking about.
Could You Rock This Blond Bombshell Look? Would You?
So now, I wanna hear from you in the comment section below. Could you pull this look off? Would you cut your hair to try this look? Or is this a "Hollywood" look that isn't practical for the normal person out here in the skreets?
Yes, I said "skreets". Don't Judge me...
Anyway y'all... Keep an eye out for her new show coming out soon called "Teyana & Iman", it's on VH1, so we're just gonna have to pray that the show aint super-ratchet. Lord knows I can't mess with none of the "Love & Hip Hop" shows no more. Girl, I feel like I'm disrespecting my ancestors watching that foolery, lol.
Hopefully Teyana's new show will help show a beautiful example of REAL Black love, family and positivity.
Like Drake says, "WE GON' SEE!"
So check out her SUPER CUTE photos that we captured from various interviews, the photo gallery below has them all and even a cute pic from when her hair was super long and full and she was reppin'for Mane Choice Hair Growth Pills.

Still, you are gonna love these 3 in-depth reviews we've collected for you, because these products are getting some MAJOR LOVE from the melanin-blessed beauties who have been fortunate enough to get their hands on these BAD GIRLS.
And the first review vid from AseaMae is definitely BlackHairOMG APPROVED! Her review was my favorite of the bunch, because the sista breaks down the pros and cons of every single product in the brand new product line.
She shows how she got one of the BEST TWISTOUTS EVVVVVAAARRR on her type 4 hair!!
She also mentions that it is a manageability line that makes type 4 kinky hurrr super soft and that Hair Type 4 Leaf Clover Shampoo Smells so good that she almost wants to eat it, it smells like candy! And she is like me, because she loves that foam baby! This shampoo foams up really good giving you that feeling that it's really going to work and getting your luscious crown good and squeaky clean.
Listen... I loved how she takes you step-by-step through using the products showing how her hair looked and reacted each step of the way.

REVIEW VIDEO: MY 4C HAIR IS POPPIN! The Main Choice Hair Type 4 Leaf Clover Full Collection Review + Twist Out
So as you can see, the final results were SLAYING EVERYTHING MOVIN' honey!
Now our next review from One Smart Fro is raining down praise on the new line as well, one of the only things (halfway) negative things she said is that she felt she had used alot of the 4 Leaf Clover Conditioner because it's alot thicker than the other conditioners in the other lines like the Heavenly Halo conditioner and the Ancient Egyptian conditioners.
And at the end of the day, she does love thick conditioners, so she couldn't really complain.
Check out her reviews below...
My BEST Braid Out w/ The Mane Choice Hair Type 4 Leaf Clover
And lastly, check out this great review from SouthernSophis, she also RAVED about how the shampoo didn't strip her hair of it's moisture and left it super-soft.
Girrrrl, this looks like a long-awaited gift to us type 4 hair beauties! Check out her review below and I'll let you know where you can find the line below, because many are saying the stores are sold out and the hunt for this line is off the hook right now.

You know whaaaaaaat??? Some of y'all are A MESS, LOL!
Soooo here's the deal... My girl Whitney A.K.A. "Naptural85" gave an amazing recipe for a DIY shampoo made from Alaffia - Authentic African Black Soap that she says is the "most moisturizing shampoo" she has EVER used.
And if Whitney says that, that's saying a whooooole lot, the girl aint no joke, she has Literally tested 100's and 100's of hair products on camera.
So then, riddle me this batman.... Why some of the ladies in the comment section start dragging Whitney because she said the recipe was "simple"??? LOL! (light-heartedly draggin' though... No super-mean stuff thankfully...)
For instance, check out this comment from Brianna Evans about the claim that the recipe is easy:
"I promise you guys it's super easy" ? *then uses 30 different expensive essential oils
Brianna betta get up off my girl! And got 260 dang "LIKES" on her sarcastic-behind-comment haa!
Others were saying that they aint got enough money to be buying ALL THESE INGREDIENTS.
Now I'll admit that it's not the cheapest recipe, she used 10 ingredients besides water. BUT THE RECIPE IS BOMB! Let that sista be great and teach y'all to be great too, haaa!
The DIY shampoo recipe incorporates the medicinal power of Alaffia African Black Soap, along with 9 essential oils & nutrients known to get your hair regenerating by regulating sebum production, and heal scalp damage!
Here's the complete list of ingredients for Whitney's Super-Moisturizing, hair growth shampoo:

The genius of the Natural Hair community is ALWAYS on display. The different ways that we invent homemade natural hair & beauty products and creative ways to protect our lusciousness in order to keep the curls POPPIN' never stop! And one great example of this is the nighttime hairstyle started by beautiful naturals called "pineappling".
When you stop over-shampooing your hair, it's a MUST that we find ways to make that BELOVED wash day definition last much longer. And guess what boo!! Pineappling is a wonderful technique for preserving those precious curls while you're rolling around in bed (snoring all loud, lol), giving you your best 2nd, 3rd and even 4th day hair.
What is a Pineapple Protective Style
Gotta love that protective pineapple, haa. The pineapple is a loose, high ponytail on top of your head, that prevents the frizz, knots and flattened curls that come with lying on a pillow. This way, only the sides and back of your hair will be subject to your tossing and turning.
The scrunchie or ponytail holder should be loose/tight enough that you loop it around your hair just once if possible. This stops a dent or crease from forming while you sleep. Many naturals prefer to use a satin scrunchie to stop accidental hair breakage and that depressing feeling of tearing hair out with normal hair ties. Ugh...
Many natural ladies also wrap their pineapple in a satin scarf or bonnet to protect their hair from the knots and dryness that comes with rubbing on a pillow, but if you don’t like to sleep with that on your head you can just sleep on a satin pillowcase.
What If You Have Type 4 Coils
If you have highly-textured type 4 hair, you may find that scrunchies or elastic still leaves an indentation in your luscious natural hair, if that's happens then you can pineapple just using a satin scarf and bonnet. This is especially helpful for shorter hair.
How to Pineapple
Now remember, this is pineapple is going to be a very loose ponytail, so we suggest that you start pineappling it right before you lay down for the night. It may slip a little but your hair should still be protected and don't forget your satin pillowcase boo!
BEND all the way forward.
GENTLY gather your hair on top of your head.
SLIDE a scrunchie, elastic or special No-Crease Snap-Off Hair Tie around the base of the ponytail only once (or as loosely as possible) The looser the better to avoid creasing.
*OPTIONAL STEP: You can clip the ends of your pineapple to your head or try NOT TO pull the ends all the way through to create a loose bun.
PUT ON your bonnet or scarf last.
How to Take Down Your Protective Pineapple
The pineapple takedown is as important as putting it up. You can’t simply take your hair out of a pineapple and expect to walk out of the crib, you'll need to perk things up with some light styling.
This is how our Type 4a Editor Amanda takes down her pineapple.
Now don't get me wrong, a pineapple is definitely not the only way to sleep with curly natural hair. If you've tried it and it didn't work for you, that's OK. We'll be highlighting other methods to protect the luscious, so stay tuned Lovelies!
