Review of some advanced features of FHI Heat Flat Irons

The Exclusive Proprietary Nano-Fuzeion™ Technology only exists in FHI products. They produce gently Far Infrared Heat, and low Electromagnetic Field is very effective for treating damaged hair gently.

Once you drag the flat iron on hair, it will lose heat, say, if the temperature set is 400F, when sliding the iron through your hair for a while, the temperature will drop to 390F. The FHI solved this problem with their RAPIDTEK™ Heating Technology which instantaneously balances heat lost to maintain the temperature consistently from the root to the bottom of your hair. This feature is only offered with the FHI Heat EPS Black Diamond Digital model. The ceramic tourmaline plates significantly reduce heat damage while treating your hair gently.

The plates are made by 3 layers of ceramic. However the Runway model – one of the most expensive flat irons on the market features 6 layers and the LED display on the ion will show different colors when temperatures change to suitable hair types: red, blue and green zone. One user and her sister have been using this flat iron and left this review...

My sister and I absolutely love this straightener, we would not trade this this for anything else. It came in on time with everything they said it would come with. We're blackgirls without perms and it does our hair wonders. I was recommended this product and decided to buy it off of Amazon seeing how it is one of my favorite sites to shop. The packaging was more than secure and I really appreciate that because it was a bit expensive. We still use it and have no complaints about it. I would definitely buy from this seller again and recommend all to choose this seller when buying hair products. Thank you

- Shayna

For those who use FHI the first time were impressive with the design, color, and result. One called it this is a curling iron and it works great on her natural hair. The iron gets hot very fast giving me a shiny straight look. If you have a natural hair like me,  it is easy for you to straighten it at around 350F, a reviewer says.

Review Of The Run Way FHI Flat Iron

In the video an learn how to curl hair with a FHI Flat Iron

The Runway FHI Flat Iron is the highest quality FHI ceramic flat iron, it's used by Hollywood stars and famous hairstylists. This is truly an evolved state of the art and tech-savvy flat iron that guarantees you the best hair straightening experience. The ergonomic design, modern technology innovation and un-matched performance are the most appealing aspects of this styling tool. Due to high price tag above $500, they are mostly used in elegant salons. The Runway possesses the highest quality ceramic plates with 6 layers.

This Salon-Level Flat Iron Is Usually Priced Over $500

This model has superior ceramic plates, easy digital control and clear display as well visible colors on the LED to point out which temperature are being used.

Review of FHI Heat Flat Iron: EPS Black Diamond Digital.

Made with advanced technology, this hair styling tool will make you feel like you're using a smart device, the FHI Flat iron is the combination of technology and style and known for bringing the grooming industry’s latest developments. If you are addicted to smart devices, this is an ideal device you and for the tech-savvy stylists. The EPS iron features digital temperature control, color-coded for hair type and textures, and unmatched ceramic black diamond plates. The plates generate more 25% moisture-locking ions, drying out your hair will not be a major concern with this device.

The advantage of digital control is that you can change stepwise 1 degree, unlike conventional models there is limited setting( from 5 to 25).

The energy saving feature-sleeping mode will reduce the temperature into half after 3-minutes of non-use, then it will “awaken” when you touch it.

You see a lot of good things about FHI flat iron, there is a minor downside of this flat iron. Unlike other flat irons, EPS Black Diamond Digital doesn’t have the most common problem that comes from the heating such as the temperature of plates is not set exactly as number display on screen or on the dial. However, there are a couple of small complaints about the button for digital model, some users find it is hard to press. It is not a big deal, above all they are still a great value for the price.

Priced Just Under $200 Dollar - A GREAT Value!

Here are some reviews of EPS Black Diamond Digital.

I've only been using this for a week, but so far I'm very happy. I had a Solia straightener for close to 10 years which I loved, but this is better. It heats quickly, sleeps when inactive (great for me as I sometimes forget to turn off and unplug in the rush of the morning), and has been great at smoothing my very thick hair. I also like the carrying case and extra long cord, which has a Velcro attachment so that you can tie up the excess cord if you don't need it to stretch so far or when putting away. I bought this at the recommendation of my hair stylist and as long as it holds up, I think it was a great purchase.

"Weave Loan Store" Commercial Makes Me Want To Puke!

Are we being serious right now? I saw a commercial today for a weave loan store. The commercial was so patronizing and so ridiculous that I honestly thought it was made as some joke video made by some racist or mean-spirited "gender war" participants. But nope, it is a very real business.

Although the idea of a weave loan shop in itself is a bit weird, I wouldn't have had such a huge problem with it IF THE COMMERCIAL WEREN'T AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER. Hey, if someone thinks there is a need in the market for a weave loan shop...... Whatever (I guess), do your thing.

But I honestly would like to interview the weave loan shop owner that thought a commercial of a ghetto-grammared, weave slanglin' black woman with blonde hair and green eyes was a good idea.

That's how you want to represent your business? As a ghetto mess? Is that how you want your customers to be seen? You might want to change your advertising angle. All attention is not GOOD attention.

Look, some women wear weave. No big deal.

But who in their right mind would walk into this "place of business" after the buffoonery they make out of themselves and their customers?
weave loan store

Detailing The Foolishness In This Weave Loan Shop Commercial

I literally had to go to Google and put in... "Is the weave loan store commercial for real?". And unfortunately, I found out that, yes, it is very real. They even had a television news feature about them. This ridiculous weave shop commercial (which I have for you below), starts off with a black woman stomping her feet and crying because she can't afford to buy a good weave.

REAAAALLY?

Then, the "spokeswoman" speaks in her best "stereotypical black girl voice", saying things like "Don't worry girl... get a weave loan and GET YOU SOME HAIR."

ARE WE BEING REAL RIGHT NOW???

Then, check this out. Instead of using the word "we've" they replace it with "weave".

For example they write about getting a weave loan and say "WEAVE made it as easy as 1,2,3!" and talking about the need to become beautiful, they write "WEAVE got you covered!".

How clever.....(Blank stare.)

But over everything else, I think the most offensive part of their poorly thought-out, unprofessional, stereotypical, piece-o-crap commercial, was that they inferred that you aren't beautiful until you can get weave in your head. One of their tag-lines is "Now you can afford to be beautiful!".

Maaaaaaaan, I wish I was lying about this. I still can hardly believe this is a real business, but they clearly have a real website, a real phone number and a real physical address on 8 Mile in Detroit, MI. (Nice job shaming my hometown...)

Anyway, I have the commercial from Youtube below, please share this article & leave your comments below, tell me what you think about these "business owners" and what you think of this weave loan store commercial.

How To Use Coconut Oil For Hair - AMAZING Moisturizer Mask!

It's no secret, coconut oil for hair has been a true blessing for women wanting to bring their damaged curls back to bouncy life.

Many things can cause your hair to look bad. Straightening your hair too often of even an illness can cause your hair to lose its life and luster. If your hair ever looks dull or starts feeling brittle or straw-like, this new coconut oil and honey hair recipe works wonders and usually only after using it twice, you can have your bouncy curls back and have hair that looks ready for any beauty magazine photo shoot. I recommend this to ANYONE with damaged hair/fuzzy, undefined curls. So many ladies who are new to this hair revitalization method are absolutely AMAZED to see the quick and gorgeous results.

Coconut Oil For Hair & Honey Method: What You'll Need

  • 1.5 tbs honey
  • 2 egg yolks (optional if you need protein)
  • A few drops of essential oil for fragrance (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. MELT the coconut oil in the microwave for a few seconds - Don't cook it, just melt it.
  2. POUR the coconut oil for hair into a bowl, add the honey, and mix. You may have to work at it, as the two don't easily mix. Add the essential oil at this point if you wish. The mask does not smell bad if you don't add any fragrance!
  3. APPLY the (still hot) mixture to your wet hair from ends to roots.
  4. PUT on your Hair Therapy Wrap, alternatively you can warm a towel in the microwave and wrap your hair in it.
  5. WAIT 45 minutes, or for really damaged hair you can leave the treatment in overnight (just wear a shower cap)
  6. RINSE

Final Details: How To Use Coconut Oil For Hair

Apply the mask to wet hair, concentrating on the ends, where most of the hair damage occurs. (If there are still some solid bits of coconut oil in the hair mask, just work them into your hair.) Wrap your hair up in a bun and place hair therapy wrap or wet towel over it. Let the mask sit for 45 minutes, then wash rinse in the shower and follow with your normal shampoo and favorite conditioner. When your hair dries, you’ll see instant shine. Apply the mask once a week and your hair will be softer, shinier, and look healthier over time.

One thing to note: coconut oil can make tubs and floors very slippery! It will drip, even with a shower cap on, so be careful. Also, if you take a bath while the coconut oil hair mask is absorbing, some of the oil will make its way into the tub, giving your skin a hydrating treatment. Remember, using coconut oil for hair is only one of its MANY uses, besides using it for conditioning and hair growth treatments, using coconut oil for skin and face brings many beauty benefits like soft and younger looking skin. It truly is a miracle oil.

Tria Hair Removal Laser 4x Review - Part 1 of 2

Simple & clear Tria hair removal laser 4X review: Here's the deal. When using the Tria laser hair removal 4X system, you can start seeing major improvements within a matter of 10-12 weeks.

Some women say that they actually forgot to shave for up to a week at a time and the hair the remains is so fine that it's not even noticeable. But it all depends on your hair type and where the hair is on your body as well.

There are some tougher areas to work on, like the hair on the big toes for hairy men, areas like that are sure to need the complete 6 months of treatments to get the job done.  But since it is so easy to do, you can do it from the privacy of your own home.  Not a big deal.
tria 4x hair removal laser

Paying The Big Bucks... Is Tria Worth It?

We priced laser hair removal procedures in salons recently.

And depending on the area you live, it's not going to be cheap. In the Florida area, it is about $500 for 6 treatments on smaller areas.  That would include your bikini line, underarms is another area…and so forth. The cost adds up quickly.  And what they don’t tell you up front…is that you will still need to come back into the salon later for follow up visits.  That is the worst part for people that don't enjoy trips to the salon, or the repeated out-of-pocket costs that you'll pay. Salons are also known for raising their prices as they see fit, so don't get comfortable with any "set prices".

The Tria Laser Hair 4X Removal System is the ONLY at home laser that can give you the same permanent results as the professional systems found at dermatologists and salons.  Right now, the Tria at home hair removal system is on sale on Amazon for only $395 and Amazon also has a very helpful Tria hair removal laser 4x review page. But, back to the price, that is a big cost for some lower income people, but for others, they realize that they will pay out less money over a matter of months. How?

Comparing Upfront Tria Hair Removal Cost VS. Year After Year Costs

Think of the price of a razor each week (that is if you change your razor weekly.  Some of us change it more often), a can of shaving cream/lotion each month.

If we go with the average cost of a refill razor head being $2.50 and the average can of Shaving Cream/lotion being $3.50.  The prices add up like this:

  • 52 Razor Blades = $130
  • 12 Cans of Shaving Cream/Lotion = $42
  • Total for each and every year = $172

You can see how this will just continue to add up year after year after year.

You could actually pay for this Tria hair removal laser 4X system with the money you'd spend on 2 years of shaving supplies, and even better than that, be done with shaving FOREVER in just 6 months! If you're anything like the rest of us, never needing to shave again is worth more than can be explained by numbers.

So, every 2 weeks, what will you be in for with your Tria hair removal laser 4X?

  • STEP 1- Prepare. Thoroughly cleanse, shave and towel-dry your skin.
  • STEP 2- Customize. The Tria Laser has 5 comfort levels that will help you customize treatments to your personal comfort level.
  • STEP 3- Apply. Place the laser tip on your skin. After each beep, just lift and place the laser tip about 1/4 of an inch and move it over the areas you wish to treat.

Normal sized legs take about 10 minutes each to do, underarms and bikini lines usually take about 5 minutes total.  So, you are finished in about 25 minutes.  You'll only need to do this once every 2 weeks. Many users report that halfway through their treatments they see quite a difference in slowed hair growth.

This Tria hair removal laser 4X review is meant for the men and women who have the money for such an item, it just works. Most people hate shaving and I especially don't like wasting money on shaving supplies.

We received a Tria Laser Hair Removal 4X System for review purposes. We are under no obligation to post a positive review or do anything. We also have no financial backing or linking to their company. If a product stinks, we will tell you. Period.

Honest Q Redew Reviews From Naturals

q-redew reviewsIf you are looking for Q Redew reviews, you're going to be very happy. We have a bunch of naturals telling you exactly what the QRedew steamer does for natural hair and if you need to buy it or not.

We wanted to do this hair steamer review for them in order to be fair too, since we've done a huetiful hair steamer review already.

When the QRedew came on the market, it was different from other products. Hair product review after review talked about how it could be used as a moisturizer, a curl refresher AND as a deep conditioner tool.

The Q-Redew handheld hair steamer is great for naturals because it uses warm steam as mist to enhance your hair’s natural texture and volume. The Q-Redew hydrates, reshapes and restyles dry hair in minutes according to its site.

What Are Q Redew Reviews Raving About?

Ease of Use – Women are to busy to be bothered with complicated hair equipment, people have lives to live, jobs to work and kids to raise. The Q-Redew hair steamer is super easy to set up and use. You simply fill the water reservoir, plug it in, and wait for the red light to say it is ready. The bonus is you can steam your hair in sections. If you are styling your hair, you steam, add your moisturizers, and style that section. If you are interrupted, you can stop and continue where you left off.

Works as a Super Moisturizer – So as you should already know, heat helps moisturizers get into the hair shaft. The Q Redew reviews have been claiming that this machine is like a hand-held super-moisturizer. When your hair needs a serious shot of moisture, naturals have been turning to the QRedew to handle the job. For example, If you have an old, dry twist out. You can just steam it, add a premium leave-in conditioner, and seal with an oil. Some naturals choose to do this instead of co-washing their natural hair.

Curl-Refreshing Ability – While water is moisturizing for natural hair, too much can cause tangling and excess shrinkage. This is a problem many naturalistas have to fight against. With the QRedew Steamer, you can quickly refresh your kinks and curls without applying too much water and causing shrinkage. For many naturals this advantage is a game changer.

The Q-Redew Work as a Detangler – Detangling my thick, dense hair is a battle that many naturals dread. Who doesn't HATE detangling? Well, according to the Q-redew reviews, when you use the natural hair steamer, it just melts through tangles with ease.

Safer Way to Stretch Your Hair – Many Q-Redew reviews mentioned that this tool is amazing for stretching your hair. When you steam an older do, your hair can get that moisturized blow out look!

Here are a Few Q-Redew Reviews From Other Naturals

A warning and a review....just buy this, it'll be worth it in the end.

First I want to say sorry for this long review but there is a good reason for it.
Ever since I found out about this product I have been trying to come up with clever ways to steam my hair without shelling out all the money for the Q-Redew. I tried using the steamer from my Caruso Steam Rollers, it was very uncomfortable and there wasn't enough steam for me. So I went out and bought a My Little Steamer, for $20, and there was a LOT of steam coming out of that little thing and it got pretty hot.

It worked for me but I started to notice something on my hair I have never seen, small white dots about 1/4 in. from the bottom of my strands, and when I pulled on them, my hair would break off. I looked up possible reasons why this could be happening and I found out that these are usually caused by using heat on wet hair, that causes bubbles to form on the strands of hair, called bubble hair.

You may be wondering why this is a part of my review, it is a warning to you all. I don't use heat on my hair very often, I feel that the extreme heat from this small steamer (My Little Steamer particularly) is what caused these bubbles on my hair, and I have seen reviews where women say they use this steamer on their hair, and I would not recommend it. That steamer is definitely good for clothes, but not for hair (but that is whole other review). Using that streamer was the only thing in my regimen that had changed over the 2 weeks I was using it and noticed the damage to my hair. I really want to stress that in this review.

Ladies although you may have a found a loop hole around buying this device, you might end up experiencing the damage I experienced just to save a few bucks. Finally this brings me to my review of the Q-Redew. I know the price is scarey, but go sign up on the Q-Redew mailing list and wait on a good coupon, I used a $20 off coupon I got for a Black Friday sale, so in the end, the damage to my hair from the clothes steamer and the coupon made me decide to fork out the money for this device. I received it today, once they shipped it I got it within a few days, a lot sooner than I had expected.

I have 3c/4a medium porosity hair, and I am working on 4 day old dirty hair that has been in an afro puff 3 of those days and today I am rocking flattened, limp, slept on twist out from last night...I plugged this baby in, waited for it to heat up and went to work. I am very pleased with the results, my hair looking good and full and happy. It's looking like a good third day hair where my curls are full and yet still a little defined but not a matted mess. I only had to refill this once to complete my hair. I am excited about using this for my detangling and deep conditioning sessions.
It is a lot smaller than I expected. I like the vintage mint green color, and I am very pleased that I decided to purchase this product. I do feel like women who like crunchy or stiff ultra defined curls may not like this product. I personally like that it give my hair volume and makes it look fuller within minutes. I don't need ultra defined curls I just want big happy healthy hair. I only knocked off 1 star because of the price.

I have NEVER had a better product. I use this thing at least twice a week. I steam, detangle, condition, and use it as a facial treatment some nights. I LOVVVVE it! I have 2 different textures in my hair, fine 4b on top and thick 4a on bottom. The texture on top always breaks no matter the technique. I have maximum hydrated, curly and tightly coiled, wide toothed combed, water only, hennaed, and oiled and sealed, It still breaks when I detangle. This Q-Redew has cut my breakage down and my anxiety. I have retained my entire 1 and 1/2 inches over the past 3 months. I even use it on my kids hair who all have different textures on the chart.
I dont have to spend dreadful time in the bathtub detangling their hair. I pull out the Q-Redew and its detangled, oiled, and styled in 10 minutes at the most AND it looks, feels, and is healthy. I can not express how much I love this thing. If you are having issues with your hair, if you have tried every method in the book, if you have curly, coily, or kinky hair then this tool is for you!

The only con I have experienced is that I have to refill the thing after each section of hair. To cut down on the annoyance of that, I keep a water bottle and fill up after each section. Refilling is not enough for me to remove a star. I fill like if the receptacle was bigger, the steamer could not be handheld, so I'm cool with it.

I hate screwing with my hair...there, said it. I am not one to spend an hour fussing and fussing ---I want to wash it, scrunch some product in it and go. And I want to have my hair look good the next day as well. Yup, asking for a lot. Well, with the Q-Redew Steamer, I can spend 5 minutes or less on my naturally curly hair on day two (often day 3 as well) and go. This item is so worth the money---it really works!

Had this for years & used it two times. Started using it this winter between wash weeks & I love it. I now wash every 2 weeks. This is a natural girl staple. Awesome product.

For my 4c hair that constantly needs moisturizing, this little gadget is simple and easy to use in the mornings. I do the LCO method almost every morning so this really helps. And it absolutely helps with detangling. I use it for everything. If you have 4c (really 4e) type hair, then you need this. Trust me!!

This product is easy to use. Fill the reservoir, plug it up, wait a few minutes... then bam!!! it's ready for use. It doesn't do as great a job as the hooded steamers, but its great for a midweek moisture booster.

My Natural Hair Journey #3: Brittany

My name is Brittany and I have been natural for 2 years now.

I stopped putting perms in my head because my hair was breaking out, I was tired of wasting money and I wanted curly hair. Going natural was the best decision I could ever make. My hair has grown a lot during these two years.

I love the versatility of my natural hair. Three times out of the year I will flat iron it but that is it. The rest of the time I will flat twist it.

I have tried to do Bantu knots, or roller sets but hair just comes out looking a mess. I don't use any type of pills to help make my hair grow I just use the LOC method. My favorite products are coconut oil, cantu leave in conditioner, lotta body setting lotion and lotta body curl and style milk. I am still trying to find the right products for my hair. As a natural I had no idea of the maintenance to maintain it.

I flat twist it daily and every now and then I will wear an afro. I think I have 3 different curl patterns but I love my curls. I get a lot of compliments on my worst hair days lol.

Going Natural Wasn't Always Easy

My first year was the hardest I contemplated perming my hair several times.my natural hair journey I would go online looking for natural hairstyles and try them only for them to not work for me and that became extremely frustrating.

Going natural wasn't the easiest thing at because people that were use to seeing me with straight, long, uneven not healthy hair were negative.

It brought my self esteem down but I am over that now and so are they. I love my different curl patterns and I wouldn't change a thing about my hair. If anyone knows good moisturizers please let me know.

My hair still has a dry look to it and I don't know how to fix that. Love the skin your in and your curl pattern. Don't give up on your natural hair journey.

How to Make a Crochet Wig - Method #3

Crochet braids are a popular protective hairstyle for naturals. Here is the problem though.

You may be in love the crochet-braids look, but just don't have the time, energy or patience to put  them into your own hair. Well there is a solution for natural who don't have the time for braid installation.

You can make a crochet wig instead, which you will definitely be able to get done much, much faster than crochet braids!

If you’re the type of woman who always gets the itch to change your hairstyles because you get bored quickly, the crochet wig will be a nice go-to option to help you switch your style up a bit. You can remove the wig on a daily basis or whenever you choose. Wigs give you the ability to care for your hair better as well, because there is nothing adding a barrier when you need to cleanse or moisturize your real hair. In this way, you'll be able to continue nourishing your hair with the best hair products and keep it healthy.

What you will need:

Explanation of the process

There is a big difference with this method versus doing crotchet braid. With crotchet braids, your hair is curled prior to you installing it on the wig. If you ever had to curl your extension hair using perm rods before you know the potential dangers of using boiling hot water. You have to be extremely careful in order not to burn yourself.

No worries using this crotchet wig technique, you will not have to be on high alert for this. The cool thing is, once you have set all the hair that you are going to use you can get all of your hair curled in one easy step. Simply place all of the hair in a bowl of boiling hot water, pat dry with a towel as you normally would to remove excess water and remove from the rod and crochet away.

When you crochet the hair onto the wig it undoubtedly will go a whole lot faster, because you can easily see what you are doing. Whereas when you are doing extensions, areas like the back of your head will be very time consuming.

Best Bantu Knot Out Alternative - Video

This amazing bantu knot out alternative is what Jessica Pettway calls her “bantu flat out.” Never heard of that before? Well, that's because the bantu flat out is her unique technique.

For years in the natural hair game, Jessica couldn’t get the bantu knot out to work for her no matter how hard she tried! Not to mention, she didn't like the uncomfortable idea of trying to sleep with a whole bunch of knots in her head. So she invented an amazing alternative to the bantu knot out, a natural hairstyles version for women who are "Bantu knot challenged". Now naturals who have trouble with getting bantu knots can also enjoy the definition of a bantu knot out!

So what do you think about this bantu knot out alternative?

Many naturals with 3c, 4a, 4b, and 4c hair complain about their bantu knots never coming out right.
Have any of you tried this before? Some say that this bantu knot out alternative method looks somewhat similar to pin curls. The results are really stunning and defined natural curls and Jessica has proven that that is definitely a great natural hair alternative to traditional Bantu Knots.

4 Natural Hair Breakage Treatment Tips

Natural hair breakage treatment tips are important because hair breakage is so common, so let’s address the some of the major causes of why it happens and how you can fix it. Hair breakage is generally a result of lack of hydration, lack of protein or damaging styling techniques.

Knowing which one or combination of these you are battling with will help you get your hair back on track the fastest.  You can also use the natural hair breakage treatment tips in the infographic below to solve the situation.

Breakage From Lack of Hydration

Water is always and will always be the primary source of moisture for hair and is the single most important factor in the hydration levels of hair. natural hair journey picturesWhen you hair is dehydrated, it loses elasticity and is prone to snapping when you comb it or even handle it with your hands.

To keep your hair supple, water should touch all hair textures a minimum of once per week, even when protective styling with braids or twists by simply washing your hair or just spritzing it with water/water based product or a water/oil mixture if washing is not required and then sealed with an oil or butter if needed. We like Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream which is 100% Vegetarian and a product that we can’t get enough of.

We’d love to say that putting water on your hair and scalp is enough, but it’s simply just not true. Water consumption is equally important for well hydrated hair and skin, so please drink up!

Drinking water helps to keep your scalp balanced from the “inside” and by doing so promotes healthy and strong hair growth which in turns leads to less breakage. You can use all the products in the world promoted for healthy hair but if you are not getting enough water your efforts will be akin to putting a band-aid on a gaping wound. Try to always get your 8-10 glasses of water per day, and no, substituting that with coke or crystal light does not count.

Natural Hair Breakage from Excessive Heat Styling

Frequent heat styling from blow drying to flat ironing can also increase dryness inevitably leading to breakage. If you plan on using heat on your hair, be smart in your approach. Always keep these methods to a minimum and use moisturizing conditioners to replace lost moisture, increasing hair elasticity.

A monthly protein treatment can also be beneficial depending on the extent of the damage to the hair, but generally speaking, reducing the heat and increasing the moisture mends hair as best any practices can besides cutting any hair that shows signs of severe damage such as not reverting back to your natural curl or wave pattern when its wet. We like Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose shampoo and conditioner and Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner to help keep hair balanced when styling with heat.

All natural products formulated for hair generally contain a combination of ingredients that when used separately or in their natural form are safe for human consumption with the exception of ingredients that allow for water and oil blending (emulsifiers), preservatives and fragrance (essential oils). So mind your ingredient labels and seek these types out for the safest, most effective products that are almost pure enough to eat.

Breakage From Off Balance Protein & Moisture Levels

Protein and moisture balance are also critical to keeping hair in the best possible condition as hair is primarily comprised of over 90 percent keratin protein. natural hair journey picturesProtein in the hair is adversely impacted by chemical color and texture services (relaxers & perms) and heat styling and is also affected by diet and environmental factors such as sun exposure.

To prevent or reduce breakage, it’s important to maintain healthy protein levels in your hair by replacing lost protein after all chemical services with a protein treatment or conditioner (your hair stylist should be doing this at the salon after treatments) and incorporate a protein conditioner in your hair care regimen every 4-6 weeks especially if you straighten your natural hair.

For the most natural at-home treatments that can be used weekly, we like light conditioners like Aubrey Organics GPB (Glycogen Protein Balancing) Conditioner, a nutrient-rich, protein-based conditioner that really re-energizes hair, strengthens hair fiber and repairs damage. This is a product that really delivers on its promises. For monthly treatments, Hairveda Methi Sativa Tea Set is a great option. It’s an ayurvedic-based 2-step treatment system with ingredients like black tea and chamomile that gently treats breakage while restoring moisture. Though we don’t suggest you eat these two products, they are organic and natural-based products that are eco-friendly and effective.

Protein treatments come in different strengths from re-constructors (very damaged hair) to deep treatments (moderate damage) to daily conditioners (little damage). It’s important to keep in mind that with slightly damaged hair, a monthly treatment is more than enough as you don’t want to overly process your hair with too much protein which will only exaggerate the problem with breakage. So you can try opting for a treatment once a month or using GPB weekly to see how your hair responds.

Homemade protein conditioner mixes like egg and mayonnaise for example, while popular and make the hair feel softer, are mostly ineffective as food proteins are too large to penetrate the hair strand without being reduced in size through a process called hydrolyzation. And just like your water consumption, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting an adequate amount of protein in your diet as well. What goes in does come out!

Whether you’re struggling to get a project done, have trouble at home, or are just going through some tough times, the situation will start to represent itself in your hair. Stress can cause you to act roughly towards your hair and do rash things that may provoke an over-processing situation. It can also drive you to neglect your hair.
