Review of some advanced features of FHI Heat Flat Irons

The Exclusive Proprietary Nano-Fuzeion™ Technology only exists in FHI products. They produce gently Far Infrared Heat, and low Electromagnetic Field is very effective for treating damaged hair gently.

Once you drag the flat iron on hair, it will lose heat, say, if the temperature set is 400F, when sliding the iron through your hair for a while, the temperature will drop to 390F. The FHI solved this problem with their RAPIDTEK™ Heating Technology which instantaneously balances heat lost to maintain the temperature consistently from the root to the bottom of your hair. This feature is only offered with the FHI Heat EPS Black Diamond Digital model. The ceramic tourmaline plates significantly reduce heat damage while treating your hair gently.

FHI Hair Iron Features and Design

Most of them will be automatically shut off after one hour if you're not using it. The ceramic plates can get to as high as 450F.

The plates are made by 3 layers of ceramic. However the Runway model – one of the most expensive flat irons on the market features 6 layers and the LED display on the ion will show different colors when temperatures change to suitable hair types: red, blue and green zone. Looking at this color code you will never fail to set the wrong temperature for your hair type, it amazingly indicates the color match exactly for your type of hair.

Quality
What is about hair dry? No more, as claimed by FHI, the negative ions emits from the tourmaline surface lock in water in the hair retaining it the stable moisture condition. Every single product of FHI is made so that it gives you the most comfortable feeling while holding the iron in your hand. One user and her sister have been using this flat iron and left this review...

My sister and I absolutely love this straightener, we would not trade this this for anything else. It came in on time with everything they said it would come with. We're blackgirls without perms and it does our hair wonders. I was recommended this product and decided to buy it off of Amazon seeing how it is one of my favorite sites to shop. The packaging was more than secure and I really appreciate that because it was a bit expensive. We still use it and have no complaints about it. I would definitely buy from this seller again and recommend all to choose this seller when buying hair products. Thank you

- Shayna

For those who use FHI the first time were impressive with the design, color, and result. One called it this is a curling iron and it works great on her natural hair. The iron gets hot very fast giving me a shiny straight look. If you have a natural hair like me,  it is easy for you to straighten it at around 350F, a reviewer says.

Review of FHI Heat Flat Iron: EPS Black Diamond Digital.

Made with advanced technology, this hair styling tool will make you feel like you're using a smart device, the FHI Flat iron is the combination of technology and style and known for bringing the grooming industry’s latest developments. If you are addicted to smart devices, this is an ideal device you and for the tech-savvy stylists. The EPS iron features digital temperature control, color-coded for hair type and textures, and unmatched ceramic black diamond plates. The plates generate more 25% moisture-locking ions, drying out your hair will not be a major concern with this device.

The advantage of digital control is that you can change stepwise 1 degree, unlike conventional models there is limited setting( from 5 to 25).

The energy saving feature-sleeping mode will reduce the temperature into half after 3-minutes of non-use, then it will “awaken” when you touch it.

You see a lot of good things about FHI flat iron, there is a minor downside of this flat iron. Unlike other flat irons, EPS Black Diamond Digital doesn’t have the most common problem that comes from the heating such as the temperature of plates is not set exactly as number display on screen or on the dial. However, there are a couple of small complaints about the button for the digital model, some users find it is hard to press. It is not a big deal, above all, they are still a great value for the price.

Priced Just Under $200 Dollar - A GREAT Value!

Here are some reviews of EPS Black Diamond Digital.

I've only been using this for a week, but so far I'm very happy. I had a Solia straightener for close to 10 years which I loved, but this is better. It heats quickly, sleeps when inactive (great for me as I sometimes forget to turn off and unplug in the rush of the morning), and has been great at smoothing my very thick hair. I also like the carrying case and extra long cord, which has a Velcro attachment so that you can tie up the excess cord if you don't need it to stretch so far or when putting away. I bought this at the recommendation of my hair stylist and as long as it holds up, I think it was a great purchase.

Curl Defining Products Reviews From Other Naturals

1. Aunt Jackies Curl La La Defining Curl Custard

"Amazing Definition!"

By SharLia

curl defining-productsI'm less than 24 hours natural (just got my relaxed ends cut today) and this is the first product I've used. Let me say, prior to putting this in hair my curl definition was non-existent. This stuff tightened my curl pattern, and made my hair incredibly soft, and moisturized. I can't stop touching it.

I'm going to have to pick up some more, because I have never had a natural hair product work AND be so affordable. I love my natural hair but with this stuff i love it even more...TRY IT!

2. Bio Infusion Curl Creme

This curl pomade is the BOMB. Works great on dry hair. The curl creme is good but it has a LOUD fragrance... It's not as noticeable the next day. If you have thin hair you may want avoid this product. Bio infusion curl creme is paraben and sulfate free (SEE THIS ARTICLE to avoid the most dangerous product ingredients). You don't have to use a lot of the product to get the defined curl look that you want. You get a good bang for your buck with this one.

3. Darcy Botanical Sweet Coco Bean Curl Smoothing Cream

"Great for high porosity curly hair"

By Sheri

My hair requires a lot of moisture, and it's texture ranges from silky curls to frizz. I put the Darcy Botanical Sweet Coco Bean Curl Smoothing Cream product on my wet hair and let it dry naturally. My hair feels healthier and the curls are more pronounced. I also used a botanical spray gel for curly hair, to tame the frizzy sections and to have a more manageable style. I'm pleased with this product- and I like the vanilla bean smell, and would definitely purchase again!

3. Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream

"Wonderful Curling Cream"

By Rebecca Cunningham

I bought this at Target I have used the co-wash and leave in conditioner which both are great. Cantu's products are on the low end for natural hair care and it delivers what it promises. I have used Miss Jessie's in the past which is ridiculously priced and doesn't curl my hair like this. I do not even have to use gel for the style to stay I love it. I have regular black folk hair with a little water, leave in conditioner and this product it curls just fine. I have also used Carols daughter Healthy Hair Butter which also brings out the curl pattern but I have to use a little gel with that to maintain the curls. Use what works on your hair do not go broke trying to find a natural hair care product to give your hair curls that it was not created to have. Enjoy the texture God gave you and be blessed.

4. Edens Bodyworks All Natural Curl Defining Cream

"My Go-To Curl Defining Magic!"

By Karen J.

Yes, I like this product and it has become by base product from which others are judged. curl defining-products edenIt is trusted and never let's me down. I even achieved my first wash and go with this product on 4b/c hair. It produced loose coily curls. Another good product for Wash and Go is the As I Am Naturally line and it produces a tighter coil and a different Wash and Go look.

My daughter who has more 4c than b does not achieve a wash and go with this product. Perhaps her hair needs more moisturizing since she is swimming everyday this summer, before she can achieve a wash and go with this product.

The product is primarily used to keep my ends and overall hair moisturized. On my hair it produces a soft hold. I am still very heavy handed using products so it is also oily to the touch, but that should change as I master the use of styling products.

Outstanding trustworthy product.

5. SheaMoisture Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

"Perfect"

By A. Allen

Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is an EXCELLENT creme hair dress and conditioner--think Vitapointe Creme Daily Hairdress, 7 Ounce or Liv Creme Hairdressing and Conditioner kicked up a dozen notches just for curls. No mineral oil, petroleum and beeswax--Shea, coconut , mango, aloe silk protein instead!

This product is best used just as you would a creme hairdressing. I use this in the same may my mother used Liv on my hair when I was little for braids/braid-outs, finger curls, twist/twist-outs and smoothing ponytails. It works great as a layer on wet hair. Use it after your leave-in conditioner and before your sealing oil. You only need a tiny bit for shine, moisture and de-frizzing . I tap my finger lightly into the product for each braid, twist etc. and take a little more only if I need it.

Do not expect hold from this product! I DO NOT use it to set my "wash and go". Curl Enhancing Smoothie is not intended to perform like an Eco Styler Gel or Kinky Curly Curling Custard. On the other hand, because the product hydrates curls, it is great for finishing your "wash and go" or "rod set" after it dries. It's also great for refreshing second day hair because it helps curls to spring back and smooths frizz.

My best advice for using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is use it to do what it's supposed to do.

6. Kinky-Curly Curling Custard

Review From BlackHairOMG Staff:

So many naturals tell us that Kinky-Curly Curling Custard is a tough natural hair product to master. It’s full of nourishing botanicals like agave nectar extract, aloe vera juice and marshmallow, and has a very slippery and goopy texture. curl defining products A little goes a long way, as it instantly clumps and smoothes your coils. Expect extremely shiny and springy coils. Although it works best on very tight, coarse coils in the “4” category, it might pack too much of a punch for loose curls.

Overall, ladies love this product for natural hair! It works great on hair that is 4a-4c and this natural hair product helps to define your curls and coils beautifully. We've noticed that some of the curly hair product reviewers are saying that this Kinky-Curly Curling Custard does not work for their 4-something type hair. The real problem is that some people don't truly understand their hair type. 4a type hair has S shaped strands with small yet a defined curl pattern and 4b hair generally has Z-shaped strands with no defined curl or coil pattern.

Remember that this product is not a chemical curl enhancer or a hair relaxer, therefore it won't give 4b hair a curl pattern when it doesn't already have one. Our suggestion to all those unsure of your natural hair type is to wash all products/oils/gels out of your hair with a clarifying shampoo then condition, rinse and air dry your hair. If you do not have defined curls or coils and your hair looks like a lovely soft fluffy cloud then you have gorgeous 4b hair. If you have 4b hair don't bother buying this product for Wash-n-Gos. Instead use it for twist-outs or braids-outs for similar results.

Be warned.... Some believe that regular Wash-n-Gos are unhealthy for type 4 hair anyway - the reason being the tangling that comes from 4a/b hair's super shrinkage may lead to breakage. It's recommended that all hair in the type 4 range be kept moist and stretched with ends protected at all times to keep breakage and tangling at a minimum. Many type 4 naturalistas are able to retain 6" of hair growth a year following this rule so give it a try.

Oh and KCCC works really great when you pair it with a superior leave in conditioner like Kinky-Curly Knot Today or Sensories Smooth Passionflower and Aloe leave in. Other curly hair products that are worth mentioning are Deva curl products for curly hair, we will have a few reviews on their best curl defining products very soon so subscribe to BlackHairOMG today for future updates!

Best Bantu Knot Out Alternative - Video

This amazing bantu knot out alternative is what Jessica Pettway calls her “bantu flat out.” Never heard of that before? Well, that's because the bantu flat out is her unique technique.

For years in the natural hair game, Jessica couldn’t get the bantu knot out to work for her no matter how hard she tried! Not to mention, she didn't like the uncomfortable idea of trying to sleep with a whole bunch of knots in her head. So she invented an amazing alternative to the bantu knot out, a natural hairstyles version for women who are "Bantu knot challenged". Now naturals who have trouble with getting bantu knots can also enjoy the definition of a bantu knot out!

So what do you think about this bantu knot out alternative?

Many naturals with 3c, 4a, 4b, and 4c hair complain about their bantu knots never coming out right.
Have any of you tried this before? Some say that this bantu knot out alternative method looks somewhat similar to pin curls. The results are really stunning and defined natural curls and Jessica has proven that that is definitely a great natural hair alternative to traditional Bantu Knots.

Curly Nikki's "Better Than Good Hair" Book Gets Rave Reviews - 4.5 Stars

The fresh new handbook on how to achieve and maintain stylish natural hair, from one of the savviest and most revered expert on coils and curls

These days there's a revolution going on. A natural hair revolution...

Relaxers are out. Weaves are so yesterday.

Tired of damage from expensive chemical treatments and artificial enhancers, women of color are going natural thanks to many natural hair enthusiasts and supporters, one of these people is Nikki Walton of CurlyNikki.com, the natural hair blogger and online hair therapy expert.

In Better Than Good Hair, this gifted "cblackhairomg - Lee torrey - curly nikkiurl whisperer" educates women on how to transition from relaxed to completely natural hair, with advice and styles for every length—from Fierce Braid-and-Curls to Fancy Faux Buns.

She also counsels those considering the "big chop"—cutting it all off at once to sport a bold and beautiful "teeny weeny afro." Here, too, is essential guidance for parents of mixed-race children dealing with new and unfamiliar hair textures and styles.

Lee's Review Highlights: First off, I love everything about Curly Nikki. She's a beautiful and brilliant businesswoman who cares about her readers. To see her success makes me proud. So when I saw HUNDREDS of amazing reviews for her "Better Than Good Hair" book I was pretty geeked for her. Out of 260+ real person reviews, she only has 4 "haters"(people that gave her book 1 star), most of her readers are loving the book. In my opinion, you get more scientific and in-depth info from "The Science of Black Hair" book from Audrey Davis-Sivasothy but Curly Nikki delivers more entertainment value. I'll share some of the customer reviews below...

5-Star Reviews from real customers... (5 out of 169 comments)

Positive customer review from Places2Love -

  • The Quintessential Kinky/Curly Encyclopedia: Whether you are an inquisitive newly natural beauty or a natural hair expert/goddess looking to give your friends some sound advice, Better Than Good Hair is it! There are great features from Nikki AND many of the hair bloggers and youtubers that the natural experts will be familiar with and the newcomers will glean from. I was discouraged when I first saw the reviews that said this book was just like the website (and I almost did not buy it). But in actuality the layout, conciseness, and illustrations make this a very user-friendly, quickly accessible MANUAL for readers of all ages, transcending just a website that can take hours upon hours to search. Moreover, it should be comforting to the natural hair experts that the quality hair principles you have experimented with and learned by trial and error are encapsulated in one handy reference guide. I just hope updated editions will be printed every few years :-). As a bonus, Kim Wayans adds a hilarious and fitting foreword that makes me wonder when her first book will be coming out because I would buy it!

Positive customer review from Chrishonda Davis -

  • Loved It: I love this book It really breaks down how to care for your natural hair during all stages, not only that, it doesn't ridicule those who prefer to relax or chemically alter their hair. It simply encourages you to take the right steps in caring for your hair no matter how you choose to wear it. Nikki helps you have confidence in your hair and yourself.

Positive customer review from SDO "Swtdrk1" -

  • It's Better Than Just a Hair Book: I have been natural for almost 4 years and what I love about this book the most is it is a guide, a source of information. As I was reading it I was nodding in agreement. I was laughing and I was intrigued. Even though I am going on 4 years I can always benefit from things I didn't know or haven't tried and that is what BTGH is for me...information that I don't have to keep in my head. I can simply go back to that section of the book. I had to get my daughter her own copy, because there will be no borrowing. 🙂

Positive customer review from Angela P. -

  • Very Informative & Good Read: I've been natural well over 5 years and was able to take away some very good tips from this book. Nikki never disappoints. She has been humble from the beginning and is extremely clear in the book that this is not about her, but about US. I bought 3 copies and plan to buy more just to give away. This is a Godsend for anyone considering to go natural or for anyone who has been natural for years. Not many hair books can accomplish that.

Positive customer review from Deborah Houston, TX -

  • Amazing Book: It took me a while to finish this book (not because it's not good) because I'm so busy. However, I finally finished the book and I just have one word AMAZING!! I was on the Curly Nikki forum for 2 years, and reading this book was just like being on the forum but better. I like the way the book was organized, the information provided, and how Nikki used ladies that contributed to the forum to share their natural experiences. I don't know maybe it was just me, but I felt connect to the book and the articles. I have been natural for 3+ years, and the content of this book is still relevant for all of my natural hair care needs!! I only wish it had been around when I BC'ed!! Love you Nikki please keep up the good work!! Deb

Negative customer review from Bobby Ray -

  • Don't Waste Your Money: I check this book out from my local library, save your money and do the same.
All the information in the book can be found on CurlyNikki or any other natural hair blog. The photos & illustrations are in black and white and look cheap and tacky!
The book covers big chopping, transitioning, 5yrs natural and natural kids but nothing for naturals that are regular folks with medium length strands. The book seem dated to me I wanted color photos of "hair porn" you get none of that.
Bottom line dont waste your money, honey check it out if need be at your local library!

Negative customer review from Steph -

  • Over-rated: It does not address enough about people with fine hair. Glad I was able to support a black author though. (Author note: Even the Science of Black Hair book got 2 bad reviews out of 400, someone will always complain, that's life so take it for what it is. )

5 Ways To Ensure Perfect Heatless Curling on 4c Natural Hair

From www.blackgirllonghair.com -

Let’s talk all about curling 4c hair. Specifically, I’m referring to manually curling the hair versus enhancing the natural curl without a tool.

The goal is to achieve either big fluffy bouncy curls or a smooth (or smoothish because let’s face it, some kinks don’t want to be smoothed out!) roller set.

These styling ideas are perfect for you to practice if you have a summer wedding to attend or if you are just looking for styling ideas for your hair.

4c heatless curling

Lee's Article Highlights:

  • It's generally better to condition, dry and stretch 4c hair before curling it for the best results.
  • You'll get less frizz if you thoroughly detangle your hair before curling.
  • Even if air drying your hair takes all night, do not remove your rollers before your hair fully dries or the curls won't come out right.
  • Use oils and hair butters instead of water-based products for adding sheen to your hair. Water-based products work against your curls instantly.
  • Use a hair pick to cover up your parts.
  • The article shows five very helpful video tutorials showing the results you can get from various curling methods including flexi rods, curlformers, standard rollers, straw sets and perm rods.
